for gaging tapering bodies; and its object.
is, generally, to provide a device of that character whereby such bodies may be readily and very accurately gaged; and more particularly, to provide such a device havv ing gaging members interrelatively movable adjustably toward and away from each other and to various angles with each other and having portions in determined spaced relation to their work contacting surfaces respectively, such portions being adapted to be engaged by a measuring instrument; and further, to provide a supplementary gagin member detachably secured'to one of sai swung position; and
members; and further, to provide such a device wherein both gaging members are swingable todif'ferent interrelative angular positions, at least one of them being nicely adjustable to desired swung position; and further, to provide such a device wherein both gaging members are movable toward and away from each other, at least one of them being nicely adjustable to desired further,'to provide such a device one of whose members carries a micrometer adapted to'measure the work.
These and any other objects hereinafter appearing are attained by, and the inven-- tion finds preferable embodiment in, the structure hereinafter particularly described and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of a device for gaging tapering bodies;

In the embodiment of the invention chosen rotatable,
for illustration by the drawings and for detailed description in the body ofi this specificatiomthe body or frame 1 carries the gaging members, they being the table member 2 and sine bar member 3, between which members the tapering work piece, as 4 indicated in dotted lines, may be gaged. These gaging members are interrelatively movable toward and away from each other and to various angles with each other, to gage work pieces of different diameters and having opposite sides at different angles to each other, said gaging members being adapted to be securely held in such interrelative positions. To these ends, the frame 1 has a slot 5 extending in a direction perpendicular to the work supporting surface 6 of the table 2, in which slot a bolt 7 is slidable but nonits flattened sides 8 slidably and closely engaging the sides of the slot. The sine bar 3 is swingably mounted on this bolt, being turnably secured thereto by the washer 9 and the screw 10, and carrles toward its ends the buttons 12, they beingtermined distance from the work contacting A hand-turnable surface 13 of the sine bar. nut 14 on the threaded portion 15 of the bolt serves to clamp the sine bar against the filling piece 16 positioned between it and the slotted portion of the frame.
The table 2 is swingably mounted on a bolt 17 axially parallel with the bolt 7 and may be nicely adjusted to a desired swung position" thereon by the nuts 18 engaging the upper or lower sides of the slots 19 1n opposite sides of the frame and turnable on the threaded bolts 20 pivotally connected at 21 to the table 2 adjacent its opposite ends respectively. The t'ables bearing 22 on the bolt 17 is slightly enlarged as seen in Fig. 2 so that the table may be not only swung on said bolt but may be moved ashort distance toward or away from the sine bar, to effect more perfectly a desired adjustment. By turning the head 11 of the bolt 17 which is threaded at 40 in the frame 1, the table may be clamped in adjusted osition on the frame. It will be seen that a micrometer, (as 28 indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1) may be applied to the upper side of one of the buttons 12 and to the under surface 27 of the table member, whereby the gage of the work may be ascertained: Or Johansson reference blocks may be applied, for the same purpose, between the under side of the button and the upper surface of the table, as indicated in dotted lines at 29 in Fig. 1.
When the supplementary table 23 is employed, its thickness being uniform and determined, the gage of the work may be The sine bar 3 has toward its ends, and preferably at a determined distance from the axis of its swinging movement, the openings 30 extending therethrough perpendicularly to its work contacting surface 13. A micrometer may be applied to the upper surface 31 of the sine bar (which surface is in parallel determined spaced relation to the sine bars work contacting surface 13), the measuring stem 32 of the micrometer extending in and through said opening and being adapted to be brought into contact with the work. In this manner also the gage of the work may be ascertained.
It will be seen that should the lower edge 13 of the sine bar become worn or mutilated or'should it be in any way inaccurate as a gaging means, the micrometer will form, in connection with the other parts, an accurate gaging means.

I claim:
1. In a device of the character described; so a table adapted to support a work piece; a sine bar adapted to gagingly contact the work piece oppositely to the table and be ing mounted swingably on an'axis extending in a direction transverse to the table; means for holding the sine bar in swung position and in spaced relation to the table; the sine bar having portions extending transversely to the plane of its movement and in determined spaced relation to its work-contacting surface, and the table having an under surface in determined spaced relation to its work-supporting surface.

In a device of the character described; a table member adapted to support a work piece; a sine bar member adapted to gagingly contact the work piece oppositely to the table member and being mounted swingably on an axis extending in a direction transverse to the table member; means for 10', securing the sine bar member in swung position and in spaced relation to the table member; a micrometer carried by one of said members in such position that its work contacting stem is movable perpendicularly 10.,
