ener-METAL manen-Eme.
To all whom t may concern: Be it known that I, Ronnfi' E. EINSTEIN,
StL Louis, Missouri, have linvented a certain new .and useful Improvement in Cast-Metal Flange-Frogs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it 'i'ppertains to make and use the same.
his invention relates'to railway frogs of the type that are known commercially, as landge frogs, namely, frogs that are provide with a guard member. vfor iding the i: point of the lfrog by engaging the'treadrim ef'the wheel in a horlzontal plane above. the top The mainpbject ofmy present invention'r is to' provide an efficient iange frog that is strong, rigid and inexpensive *toi manufac- Another object is to provide acast metall enedfby lateral braces which are integrally from thebody portion of 'And still another object. is to provide a the patterns used in the manufacture ofor- I, dinary cast metal frogs, and which vform one of the main itemseinthe cost of manuv facture, canv be modified or changed easily so as to 'adapt them to the manufatureof a l Hnge/.frog provided with integral guardvview of a iiange rog'constructed in accordmembers. Refe'i'ing to the rawin s which 'illustrate tlie preferred crm o .,my'invention, A designates the body portion of the frog which consists of `a casting provided with a point 1 and running surfaces 2 Athat extend from said point: l-.to the toe 3 of the lfro Said body portion, A is also pryideflli;

In order that the body portion Av have an extended bearing'surface on the-track ties, said body portion is provided with laterally-projecting extensions '4 Aintegrally connected to said body portion adarrang'ed preferably at points lnproximity to the vtoe i3 and point l of'thefrog. lThe guardmem'- bers B previously. referred to are reinforced `and strengthened by' lateral braces-f-that are integrali -connected to said odyportion A an vtothe exard mem-' tbeers, tothe n'slons 4 which project laterall from the y portion, sai

A flange vfrog ecient, in that the guard members accuratelyguide theA anges of the wheels pastthe4 point of the frog by` engaging the tread rims ofthe wheelsfin a higher horizontal plane than the running surface of the ,frog-fit is exceptionally strong and ri 'd, owingtothe fact that theintegral. guar members B reinforce and strengthen the body portion of the frog,
' andain'turn are reinforced and strengthened 95 vby lateral braces 5 integrally.y connected to pao 'ect latery ortion A f the frog; it'has'an extended e'aring tie engagin portions which I surface on the track ties andit can be spiked l securely to the ties. Furthermore, .such a frog can be manufacturedl at a low costfon account of the fact Athat patternsof theknd I that Vare used in themanufactui'e "of ordinary cast easily so ast adapt them Ytothe kin anufacturenf afro .of the constructionfherin, described. by'simply adding to ysuchpatterx'is Iparts to form the guard membersB, the-intl.

Havin Y thus described my` invention,
vwhat I' c aim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A flange frog, comprising aest-'nietal bodyV portion provided vith integral guard members arrangedv -in a higher horizontal l sions Iand to said guard members.
2. A fiange frog, comprising a cast metal bodyportion provided with integral guard members that are arranged in a higher horizontal plane than the running surface of the frog, and braces that resist the lateral thrusts to which said guard members are subjected trom the'tread rims of passing Wheels.
3.,-A ange frog, comprising a cast met-al body portion provided with integral tie en gaging portions that project laterally from the base of same, integral guard members on said body portion that are arranged in a higher horizontal plane than the running surface of the frog,-and lateral braces integralbv connected to said guard member, to said body portion and to said tie engaging portions.
