Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 4, 1920.
Serial Io. my. Renewed Augult a, 1919. mm a...

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'Prof. Dr. BENNO STRAUSS, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Bredeney, Germany, have invented certain =new and useful Improvements in Objects Having Great Strength and GreatResistanoe Against the Action of Acids, of which the following is a specification.
-This' invention relates to articles, such as casks, pipes, machine parts, etc., which require great strength and great resistance against the action of acids. The invention moreover resides therein that steel alloys which contain 15% to 40% chromium,
% to 4% nickel and not over 1% carbon,"
are used for the production of such articles.
It has already been proposed to use iron alloys which contain chromium for the production of articles-which must possess great resistance against the action of acids.
These alloys are however ve brittle and for that reason cannot applied for many purposes.
It/has now been shown by experiment that steel alloys of the above-composition possess, besidesgreatcstrength, also a very high resistance a ainst the action of acids, particularly nitric acid. 1
By heating to a temperature of from 1100 to 1200 C. and sub uently cooling, these alloys attain a very igh tenacity and may be easily worked so that they can be use with facility for .tin plate and p1 -claim: p
Articles having great strength and great resistance against the action of acids, said. articles being made from a steel alloy con-, taining from 15% to 40% chromium, 20% to 4% nickel, not over 1% carbon and not less than 55% iron.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed-my signature in presence of two witnesses.
