STYLOGRA-PHIC PEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application led October 29, 1919. Serial No. 334,294.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JULrUs Annes, a citizen of the United States, residing at and whose post-oflice address is 101 Palisade avenue, Test Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stylograpliic Pens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the Vinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a stylographic oen.
l The primary object of the invention resides in the provisionl of a pen of this type wherein the air will be permitted to enter the ink barrel freely, and yet the ink will be prevented from leaking from the barrel.
A further object of the invention resides in so constructing the several parts that they will be positively positioned.
lVith these and other objects in view, such as will appear as my description progresses, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in, and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a sectional view through a pen constructed in accordance with my invention; and
Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
The pen consists of an ink barrel 10, to the end of which a main point section 11 is secured by screw threads 12. This main point section is provided with an axial cylindrical bore 13, which extendsfrom end to end of the section,4 and which is interrupted adjacent to its outer end by an annular flange 14, the outer wall 15 of which is inclined with respect to the inner wall 16, so that a gripping edge is provided, the function of which edge will be later described. A supplemental point section 17 of frustoconical form is located within the main section 11, and is held in place by the engagement of theinclined outer surface thereof with the cylindrical wall of the bore 18 at y 18, and is also held in place by the frictional engagement of the edge of the flange at 19, therewith. Thus, the supplemental section is secured in place frictionally at two points, and is therefore positively positioned. The
stylus carrier 20 is secured to the'inain point section 11 by screw threads 21V and its position with respect to the section 11 is positive, in that the shoulder on the carrier engages the shoulder on the section 1l at 22. The stylus 23 which is of resilient wire, extendsthrough the supplemental point section 17, encircles a projection 24 on the end of the carrier v2O and is secured to the latter. The helical form of the wire provides for the necessary longitudinal movement of the stylus, and makes the adjustment of the carrier 20 unnecessary, so that the latter can be positively positioned as is hereinbefore described. The cylindrical wall of the bore 13 and the inclined wall of the supplemental point section 17 formsA an air chamber 25, which increases in cross section from the point 18 where the supplemental point section frictionally engages the main pointsection, to the flange 141. Air ducts 26 extend through the supplemental point section and establish communication between the restricted end of the air chamber 25 and the interior of the supplemental point section. Additional ducts 27 extend through the flange 14: in spaced relation to the cylindrical wall ofthe bore 13 and adjacent to the inclined wall of the supplemental. point section 1.7. Thus, it will be seen that the arrangement of the ducts forms, in fact, a pocket, so that the air will be permitted to enter the ink chamber through the ducts 27 and 26, but the writing fluid will be prevented from escaping through said ducts, any fluid which passes through the ducts 26 into the chamber 25 being entrappe-d therein, because of the arrangement of the ducts 27.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the construction of the parts of the penare simple and while they are positively held in their proper positions, their manufacture and assembly will be relatively inexpensive. Furthermore, the particular arrangement of the air chamber, with relation to the ducts or vents, insures the retention of the writing fluid within the pen and thus prevents leaking of the Huid therefrom.
What I claim is:
1. In a stylographic pen, a main point section and a supplemental point section secured therein, there being an air chamber lbetween the two sections, the supplemental point section having air chiots extending therethrough from the chamber, and the main point section having an annular flange at the end thereof7 through which air ducts extend to the chamber, said duets being l0- cated remote from the wall of the main point section.
1 2. In a stylographie pen, a main point section having a cylindrical bore therein, and having a flange at the end of said bore, and a supplemental point section of tapered form wedged within the bore of the main section and the edge of said ange.
3. In a stylographio pen, the combination with a main point section and an ink bar` rel of a supplemental point section secured riotionally within the main point section, the interior wall of the main point section being cylindrical and the outer wall of the supplemental point section being tapered, whereby a chamber is formed between the sections, and a flange closing the outer end of said chamber, the supplemental point section having duets extending therethrough from the chamber, and the ange having duets extending into the chamber in spaced relation to the wall of the main point section.
4. In a stylographie pen, a main point section and a tapered supplemental point section secured frietionally therein, a stylus carrier having a shouldered engagement with a main point section and a stylus oarried thereby, said stylus being free to move longitudinally with respect to the supplement point section.
