To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I,UHACHI VAsHi-No, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, and a resident of No. 5A, -Chome, Shimo-Zonocho, Nishi-Ku, Nagoya, Empire of Japan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Steam-T raps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in steam traps of the usual direct 'acting type, and consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a steam trap which is eiicient and which can be used to suit varying pressures of the steam.
In order that this invention may be clearly understood and more readily carried into practice. reference may be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, upon which y Figure lis a longitudinal sectional elevation, showing a steam trap embodying superposed valve seats in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view, showing the position in which the main or stationary valve seat is utilized.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view, showing the position in which the secondary or movable valve seat is utilized.
In a convenient embodiment of the present invention such as is illustrated by the drawing, the trap valve 1 which is mounted upon the upper end of the spindle 12 is oi' usual upwardly pointed conical configuration, and is adapted to close or open the seat 2 with which it engages according to the vertical ysliding movement along the water tube 11 of the spindle 12 which is secured by its lower'end to the bottom of the bucket v10 floatably placed within the water chamber 9, as shown in Fig. 1.
The present invention 'is an improvement upon the ordinary steam traps, and consists in providing a downwardly tapered bore or opening 3 in that part of the seat metal, which is of considerable thickness for the purpose, and which forms stationary seat 2 fOr-the valve 1, in order to receive therein a conformingly downwardly tapered valve seat 4 adapted to come into or out of engagement with the stationary seat 2 in accordance with the sliding movement of the threaded rod 5 on which the said movable valve seatl is mounted.

that in case the steam pressure in the vessel is low it is possible by pulling the movable seat et upward to cause the lwater to pass through the stationary seat 2, while in case the steam pressure is high the water is permitted, by pressing the movable seat 4 downward, to flow out through the gate 6 into the duct 7 the stationary seat 2 being closed at this moment by the movable seat '4, as shown in Fig. 3. At 8 is represented a stop valve.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is In a steam trap, a casing having an inlet passage, a cover for the casing having an outlet. passage, ports one between the inlet passage and the interior of the casing and the other between said passage and the outlet passage of the cover, valve seats in said ports, a valve carried by the cover, arranged in the inlet passage and mounted for movement between and to yclose either of said ports, a float in the casing, a conical valve carried b y the float, a fixed valve seat in the cover havingv a downwardly tapered opening extending from the outlet passage tothe interior of the casing, a movable downwardly tapered valve seat in said fixed valve seat and arranged for engagement by said conical valve, said movable valve seat having a passage leading therethrough from the said outlet passage to the interior of the casing, and means for adjusting said movable valve seat.
