To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER FIFTAL, a citizen of Austria, residing at Waterbury, county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Interchangeable- J awed Tools, of which the following 1s a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in mechanics tools of the type used in outting, piercing or gripping miscellaneous articles. I
The principal object is to provide a tool having interchangeable jaws which may be readily engaged or disengaged with the handle, thereby providing a plurality of mmcellaneous tools adapted to be operated by a common handle.
A further object is to provide a plurahty of perforating punches and dies arranged upon rotatable disks pivotally engaged at the ends of the jaws in such manner that a variety of holes may be pierced with a single tool, a gage being provided to gulde the material so that the holes may be pierced with eXactitude.
These and other like objects, which will become more fully manifest as the description progresses, are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts here inafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the preferred form of the tool having a pair of jaws containing rotatable disks, provided with punches and dies for piercing round holes and having an adjustable guide, by means of which the holes may be equally spaced from an edge, and,

The drawing shows pairs of plain jaws 40 and 41, the former carrying at its-recessed outer end a tubular rivet 42, upon which is a rigidly mounted disk 43 having a plurality of uniformly spaced recesses 44 in their sides, engageable with which is a pin Specification of Letters Patent.

Engaged in the periphery of the disks, between the recesses 44, are screw threaded dies 48 the same being substantially cylindrical and containing openings entering the tubular rivet 42, so that the punchings are readily removed.
In the opposite jaw 41 is another disk 48 provided with like openings 44, engageable with pins in the manner before mentioned and set in the periphery are punches 49 corresponding to the openings in the several dies 48. Thus as the jaws are operated so as to cause the disks to approach each other, any material placed between will be perforated, and in order to secure suitable guiding means so that the perforations will be uniformly spaced from the edge, a bent bar 50 is secured by a screw 51 as shown in detail in Fig. 3, passing through a longitudinal slot therein so that the guide may be adjusted as desired.
As shown in Fig. 2, the stud 53 is formed with an annular recess 54 in which is engaged a hook-like element 55 pivoted by the screw 56 upon the shank 41, and it will be obvious that by moving the elements 55 outwardly the stud'may be released so as to pass through the opening formed in the end of the aw permitting another disk to be entered.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a conveniently operated device for piercing holes has been disclosed, which may e operatively engaged with the handle levers, as may also the several other jaws shown, thereby forming a very convenient and com plete implement for mechanical purposes.
Having thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
