Description

R. L. LUNG WATER MOTOR FOR EGG BEATERS.
API'UCAHGN HLEQ DEC.24. I919.
Patented Apr. 20, 1920.
3 vwontoz adapted for use in the beating UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
aussnm. 1;. LONG, or moaeanrown, wns'r vIaemIA.
warns-Moron 'ima nee-saunas.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Russnm. L. LONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morgantown, in the county of Monongalia and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Motors for Egg-Beaters,. of which the following is a specification, reference being had to thp accompanying drawings.
Thisinvention relates to certain improvements in water motors for beatersand has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and or whipp ng of eggs and it is an object o the invention to provide a device of this eneral character having novel and improve means whereby a dasher or agitating member may be rotated b fluid pressure.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein the motor is adapted to be operated by water discharged from a faucet or the like.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of -my improved water motor for an egg beater whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be here' inafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my inventionwill hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that in invention may be the better, understood, l will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
igure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken? through :a beater constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position, a coacting faucet being indicated by dotted lines;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. l with a coactin faucet indicated by dotted lines and the1 ow of the water indicated by arrows; an
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view illustratiiif the mounting of the clamping member As disclosed in the accom anying drawings Rdenotes a receptacle 0 glass or other desired material and which is provided with a; removable cover or lid C. The cover or specification)! Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 20, 1920. Application filed December 24, 1919. Serial No. 347,092.
lid C is preferably in threaded engagement with an end portion of the receptacle R, although I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to this particulardctail.
The cover or lid C at substantially its axial center is provided with an openin 2 and the adjacent end of the housing is provided with an opening 3 in alinement with the opening 2. Disposed through the openings 2 and 3 is an end portion of a rod or shaft S. The rod or shaft S extends within the housing H and is rotatably su ported by the opposite ends thereof. -Tl ie rod or shaft S is also of a len h to extend a material distance within t e receptacle when the cover or lid C is .in applied position.
The portion of the rod or shaft S within the housing H has aflixedthereto the equidistantly spaced wings or vanes 6 which operate to rotate the shaft or rod S in a manner now to be described.
The side wall of the housing H is rovided with an induction opening 7 de ned by an outstanding. flan e 8 terminating in .ln inwardly directed lange 9 defining a central opening 10 preferably substantially circular in form.
The wall ofthe housing H at a point substantially diametrical to the induction open-- ing 7 is provided with an Eduction openin 11 substantially defined by a flange 12, a fol-ding a discharge nozzle and whereby the fluid such as water emitted from the hous ing H flows in substantially a solid stream so that splashing or indiscriminate throwing of the liquid as it leaves the housing H is eliminated.
The housing H is engaged with the faucet F in a manner whereby the water discharged from said faucet is delivered within the housing H and for which reason, the spout a of the faucet extends through the opening 10. The force of the water delivered-from thefauoet F (injunction with the wings or vanes 6 cause? the rod or shaft the thin e7 at a gint slightly to one side of the sha or Pod The clampin member M comprises a shank l5 threa ed through an end portion of the yoke 14 and having its inner end portion in swivel connection with a plate 16. The plate 16 is held a ainst turning movement through the me ium of a pin 17 extending outwardly therefrom and slidably disposed through an opening 18 produced in the adjacent end portion of the yoke 14.
heq {he device is in applied position, the yoke? strnddles the faucet from below and by for ipgthe plate ltiinto firm contact with the faucet -the assembled device is maintained in req'uisite position to perform its work. By having the yoke 14 positioned as just described, it ISESSUIBd that the water dischar ed from the faucet F will strike the blades to one side of the shaft or rod S so that the desired rotation of the l'Oll or kshaft S is assured.
F mm the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a'water motor for an egg beater constructed in accordance adapted for use by reason ofthe convenience and facility with which it ma be assembled and operated, and. it will a so be obvious that my invention is susce tibleof some change and modification witiout departin from the principles and spirit thereof, an for this reason do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the recise arrangement and formation of t e several parts herein shown in carrying out my in vention in practice except as hereinafter claimed. 3 V
I claim: I
1. A water motor for an egg heater and thelike comprising a housing provided with induction and eduction open1ngs,"a drive shaft extending within the housin a yoke carried by the housing and ada tec tostraddle a faucet from below am a clamping member carried by the yoke for eoaction with a faucet if. A watenmotor for an egg heater and the like eomprising a housing provided with induction and eiluction openings, a drive shaft extending within the housing, a yoke carried by the housing and ada ted to straddle a faucet from below, an a clamping member carried by the yoke for eoaction with a faucet, the central portion of the yoke being positioned to one side of the drive shaft so that the indnction'acnd eduction openings are obliquely related when the housing is applied to the faucet.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ailix my signature.
