To all whom it'mag concern Be it known that I, RALPH A. PEATMAN, a citizen of the United States,'residing at Mound City, in the county ofLinn and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump Attachments for Automobiles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pumping attachment for automobiles, and more especially to an attachment for pumping water. The object of the invention is to produce a simple, strong, durable, inexpensive and efiicient device which can be easily and quickly secured in or removed from position without the use of any special tools or skilled service. i i
With this general object in view the in vention' consists in certain novel and useful features of construction and organization of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the said drawing, where like reference characters identify corresponding parts, 1 1s a running board, 2 the corresponding fender, and 3 one of the rear or driving wheels of a motor car, which wheel for the operation of the pump, will be jacked up so that the full power of the engine shall be utilized in the operation of the pump.
The pumping attachment is constructed as follows: 4 designates a pair of rods which are preferably tubular and curve downward at their rear ends as at 5 and terminate in bearing sleeves 6 for a shaft 7. The shaft between the bearing sleeves is equipped with a friction wheel 8 and beyond the outermost bearing sleeve with a crank arm 9 pivotally connected by a link 10 with the piston rod 11 of a pump 12. The pump is disposed in longitudinal alinement with the axis of shaft 7 and is secured firmly in eyes 13 formed atthe outer ends of a pair of cross bars 1f.- clamped rigidly to the rods 1 by fastening devices 15 comprising U shaped bolts and nuts or any equivalent means, the said rods 4: and cross bars 1 L constituting a rigid skeleton pump and drive pulley supporting frame. Mounted on the front end of the pump is a T-coupling 16 provided with a supply pipe 17 and a discharge pipe 18, the pipe 17 being equipped with a check valve'19 adapted to open on the suction stroke of the piston stem and close on the reverse stroke thereof. The discharge pipe 18 is equipped with a similar check valve 20 which closes on the suction stroke of the piston stem and opens on the reverse stroke thereof.
For securing the pumping mechanism described to the car, a pair of transversely er;- tending clips 21 capable'of being fitted onto the running board from the outer edge the wheel 3 (to be jacked up as explained),

ssuming that the attachment is fitted on the running board of the car and that the proper wheel thereof is jacked up, the operator first clamps the foremost clip firmly to the running board by means of its clamping screws 28. He then turns the clamping screw 26 to apply pressure on the post 2e and thus force the pump and drive pulley carrying frame rearwardly until the pulley is firmly engaged with the wheel. He then clamps the rearmost clip firmly to the running board. It is preferred to effect the adjustment as explained, although it is ohvious that if the rods 4. slide freely through the U-shaped bolts 22, both clips may be initially clamped firmly to the running board.
