Be it known that i, HARRY L. FULTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pueblo, in the county of Pueblo and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful improvements in Auto-Service Bulletins, of which the following-is a specication.

My present invention pertains to auto ser Tice bulletins, and relates particularly to a device of this character adapted for use Where automobiles and the like are being operated by their' owners or employed drivers, also adapted to be used Where taxi, jitney, or other passenger service is offered, or Where an auto is being operatedv in passenger service over a regular route.

en object of the invention is to provide a service bulletin which is so constructed that it can be mounted in fixed relation against the inner side of the Windshield glass of an automobile, and which in very compact form embodies mechanism to'be set to indicate the course to be taken by the auto, the starting time,the destination, and the number of passengers Who will be accommodated.

A further obj ect resides in so constructing the service bulletin and so marking the same that when no service is offered Ylarge areas of solid color in symmetrical relation Will be shown, Whereas when service is offered these areas of color are broken and show contrasting` patches which Will draw the eye of a prospective passenger to the particular information of interest.

Yet another object is to arrange, in con junction with the indicator means to be visible through the glass of the Windshieldf operating or setting means accessible tothe driver or an occupant of the auto, Which operatingor setting means is indexed so that.

the bulletin may be set to show any information desired, from the rear, Without alighting Afrom the auto to inspect the face.

'l/Vith these and other objects in View, which will be apparent from the specification, drawings, and claims, this invention includes certain novel features of construction and combinations of partswhich Will noW be set forth.

Thecase of my service bulletin is made up of the front and back plates l and 2, plate l being bent back at its edges and crimped. on plate 9. so that the plates are securely connected. The back plate 2 can be finished in Vany manner desired, the front plate however is preferably coated with a baked enamel or other coloring applied thereto to give the distinctive patches as shown. The main background is preferably painted in green or some other color which will tend to attract attention, a central panel is done in White or some light color which will readily take and show instructions or other printed matter; and for a purpose which will be clear as the description progresses, a small block of red or other color is painted inas shown at 3.

Before assembling the front plate appears substantially as shown in 3, and this plate is colored as here best indicated, the circular white patches being left on opposite sides of the central panel. 12 and 13 are provided with central bearing openings, and

16 and 17 are received to turn in these openings. Spindle 16 has a circular disk 18 fixed at one end thereof so that as this spindie is placed in the bearing openingof knob 12 disk 18 is on the face of plate 1 over the compass dial. Disk 18 is of substantially the same size as the white patch marked ofi1 to provide the compass dial, and has a notch 19 therein which corresponds substantially to opening 8 provided through plate 1. Spindle 17 has a disk 20 carried at one end thereof to cover over the white patch on plate 1 which is marked off to show the clock dial, and this disk has a notch 21 in the edge thereof, which notch extends for substantially one-thirteenth of the circum-v ference of the disk. 6 and 7 on the compass and clock dials. Arrow marks are provided on the back plate 2, as shown-in Fig. 2, and as knobs 22 and 23 are turned' to bring the various markings thereof to the arrow points, the notches 19 and 21 of

9 and 10, this disk has the words Going and To. Spaced equally from the foregoing words the disk has words Taxi and To, shown thereon, these words being diametrically opposite. As has been stated, the compass dial has only three of the main points of the compass indicated thereon, opening 8 taking the remaining point, and to supply this deficiency disk 14 has the word North marked thereon to be visible through opening 8 when the parts arc set as in Fig. 1. This disk also has a patch of red or other color at 24, located to be visible through opening 8 and patches of green or other color, as indicated at 25, to show black of

On disk 15 there is a patch of green color at 26, which will show back of opening 11, and for the remainder of the distance around the disk designations are shown to indicate the half hours and quarter hours, these designations being shown in duplicate and Vdifferentiated bythe markings A M. and 1). This clip has the ends thereof rolled at 33 to give thumb holds for moving the clip along the slide ways, and as the clip is movable a card or slip showing destination is more readily placed or removed.

In the use of my improved auto service bulletin, the device' vwill be placed on ythe inner side of the windshield on an automobile with plate l of the case against the glass so that this plate will be visible from the outside, and the operator then has before him the several setting knobs which are in a position to be readily accessible and which through the indicating markings thereon make it possible for the operator to set the bulletin to read as desired without alighting from the auto to see the setting on the forward or indicating side. By using printed cards or slips 32, having a name or names specific to the locality in which the bulletin is being used, any number of different service indicating settings may be given, and as these cards or slips can be very readily printed or written out, the bulletin is used with the same efficiency in both directions over a given route and in a number of other connections.

When the bulletin is set to offer service, the disclosure in Fig. 1 illustrating a specimen setting, any general information on the central panel will be conspicuously displayed, and the special information will be shown in a manner to attract the attention of a prospective passenger. Further, the special information is arranged to read coherently and.will be readily understandable even though read at a glance, as when the machine is in motion. In the present setting, the bulletin conveys the information that the auto is Going north to Denver, Will take 1 to 3 passengers, and starts at 10.30 P. M.

When no service is offered knobs 12, 13, 22, and 23, arel set to 0, knob 37 is set to No, and card 32 is removed from the position back of opening 27. With this setting of parts, all bulletin vindications are eliminated with the exception of that reading lNill take no passengers. In the circular spaces included by

9, 10, 11, 27, and 34, is a solid body color. When service is offered, attention is particularly attracted to the bulletin readings by reason'of the fact that this solid body color is broken by white patches having the service stating printing therein.

In Fig. 8 I have illustrated means by which the disks are held in set relations, however, as this is only one form of means which might be employed in this connection, and as the function and operation will be readily apparent I shall not here go into detail.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an auto service bulletin which is of such construction that information which it isdesired to present to prospective passengers or to the public generally is given and displayed with concise and distinct particularity; and, while l have described specific embodiments and have mentioned only certain possible modifications it will be appreciated that in practice I do not limit myself to such specific details as are herein set forth, but may resort to any practical modifications falling within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. An auto service bulletin including with a case to be displayed by an auto, movable parts having .service indicating markings arranged to be set to show an offer of service and the service offered, and setting means directly connected with said movable parts by which the indications of the bulletin are changed provided with markings adjacent a fixed point on the case to indicate to an operator settings as made.

2. An auto service bulletin including with a case to be mounted on an auto, disks mounted in conjunction with said case to be manipulated to display and cover printed information visible from the forward side of the case, and setting means on the back of the case by which said disks are manipulated provided with indicating markings to show to an operator the matter displayed to be visible from the forward side of the case.

3. An auto service bulletin including with a case to be mounted on an auto, disks mounted in conjunction with said case to be manipulated to display and cover printed information visible from the forward side of the case, setting knobs on the back of the case by which said disks are manipulated, and indicating markings on said knobs corresponding with the information to be displayed.

4. An auto service bulletin including with a case having openings through the front thereof, disks containing printed matter mounted within said case to be turned to positions to display the printed matter through said openings, and knobs on the back of said case directly connected with and by which said disks are turned provided with indicating markings corresponding to the printing on said disks.

5. An auto service bulletin including with a case having information to be displayed shown on circular dials on the forward side thereof, disks revolubly mounted over said dials to cover the printed matter thereof and provided with openings through which portions of the information are visible when the disks are turned to different settings.

6. An auto service bulletin including with a case having information to be displayed shown on circular dials on the forward side thereof and provided with openings adjashown on circular dials on the forward side thereof and provided with openings adjacent said dials, circular disks revolubly mountedl over said dials provided with notches through which portions of the printed matter are visible when said disks are turned to various positions, disks revolubly mounted Within said case to turn adj acent the openings and havinginformation shown thereon to be displayed through said openings, and means to hold certain of said disks in information displaying positions.

8. An auto service bulletin including with a case having information to be displayed shown on circular dials on the forward side thereof, disks revolubly mounted over said dials to cover the printed matter thereof and provided with openings through which portions of the information are visible when the disks are turned to different settings, and setting knobs on the back of said case by which said disks are turned provided with indicating markingsl to show the setting of the same.

9. A11 auto service bulletin including with Va case having information to be displayed shown on circular dials on the forward side thereof and provided with openings adjacent said dials, circular disks revolubly mounted over said dials provided with notches through which Vportions of the printed matter are visible when said disks are turned to various positions, disks revolubly mounted within said case to turn adjacent the openings and having information shown thereon to be displayed through said openings, and a setting knob for eachof said disks positioned on the back of the case and having indicating markings thereon similar to the corresponding 'disk andl dial markings. 10. An auto service bulletin Vincluding with a vcase having openings through the forward side thereof and adapted to be displayed by an auto with the forward side thereof visible, disks revolubly mounted in said casings with portions visible through the openings thereof, other disks provided. with notched openings mounted revolubly on the aXes of ycertain of the first Vmentioned disks, and markings on the disks within the casing and upon the casing to indicate the offer of service by the auto together with the direction of travel and destination as well as the number of passengers and the time of starting.

11. An auto service bulletin including with a case to be displaced by an auto and having an opening therethrough, means to frame a card having information as to destination within said opening, means carried by said case to be visible from the forward side thereof to indicate the character of service and direction of travel, means mounted in the case also visible from ,the forward side to designate Vthe number of passengers -to be accommodated, means likewise showing from the forward side to tell the time of starting, and setting knobs at the back of said case by which said direction indicating and the accommodation designating and time telling means are manipulated and set, said knobs having markings thereon to show the settings.

An auto service bulletin including with a case to be displayed by an auto made up of front and back plates secured together, the forward plate, of said case having circular dials thereon marked with direction and hour indications and provided withopenings adjacent said dial and an opening spaced therefrom, disks mounted revolubly within said case having service indicating markings and fraction-of-hour markings thereon to be displayed through the openings adjacent the direction and hour dials respectively, a circular disk revolubly mounted within said case having capacity indicating markings and disposed to show these markings through one of the openings from said dials, disks mounted over said dials revoluble independently of the disks within said case and having notched-openings through which the markings of said dials areshown, and a setting knob for each ofthe disks carried at the back of said case and havingvmarkings thereon to show the settings of said disks. 18. An auto service bulletin including with a case to be displayed by an auto made up of front and back plates secured together, the forward plate of said case having circular dials thereon marked with direction and hour indications and provided with vopenings adjacent said dial and an opening spaced A'therefrom, V disks mounted revolubly within said case having service indicating markings and fraction-of-hour markings thereon to be displayed vthrough the openingsV adjacent the direction and hour dials respectively, a circular disk revolubly mounted within said case having capacity indicating markings and disposed to show these markings through one ofthe openings from said dials, disks mounted over said dials revoluble independently of the disks within said case and having notched openings through which the markings of said dials are shown, a setting knob for each of the disks carried at the back of said case land having markings thereon l to show the settings of said disks, said front `ings of the front plate and to complete the solid ground color thereof When no service is offered.

14:. An auto service bulletin including with a case to be displayed by an auto made up of front and back plates secured together, the `forward plate of said case having circular dials thereon marked with direction and hour indications and provided With openings adjacent said dial and an opening spaced therefrom, disks mounted revolubly Within said case having service indicating markings and fraction-of-hour markings thereon to be displayed through the openings adjacent the direction and hour dials respectively, a circular disk revolubly mounted Within said case having capacity indicating markings and disposed to show these markings through one of the openings from said dials, disks mounted over said dials revoluble independently of the disks Within said case and having notched openings through which the markings of said dials are shown, a setting knob for each of the disks carried at the back of said case and having markings thereon to show the settings of said disks, said case having an opening through the front and back plates thereof, and a clip to hold a card having a destination marking thereon framed Within said opening.
