DOOR-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Application filed November 23, 1917. Serial No. 203,494.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be is known that we, JACOB Conos and BENJAMIN MAY, citizens of the United States, residents of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in door locks, the object of this invention being to provide a safe and simple door lock.
To attain this object we employ the devices shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a complete side view;
Fig. 2 is a top view;
Fig. 3 is a side view illustrating the action of the mechanism.
The device consists of a casing 1 with a pivoted bolt 2 on the pivot 3 which is a part of or is fastened to casing 1.
This pivoted bolt 2 engages the keeper 4 as shown in Fig. 1 and is operated by means of the slide 5 which moves vertically on the lugs 6 and 7. The connection between the bolt 2 and slide 5 is through the pin 8 on the bolt and cam slot 9 on the slide, the downward motion of the slide forces the pin 8 to the right (Fig. 1) thus swinging the bolt until it disengages itself from the keeper 4.
This lock is also provided with a spring latch 10 operated by the knobs 11 through the lugs 12 and 13 engaging lugs 14; and 15. This spring latch automatically engages the keeper when the door is shut and the swinging bolt not used.
lVhen the swinging bolt is swung into the position shown in Fig. 1 it forces back the spring latch.
The slide 5 is operated with the key 16 which first strikes the tumbler l7 and raises it off from the pin 18, then the key strikes the slide at 18 and carries it down then as the key is further rotated so that it may be withdrawn it allows the tumbler to engage the pin again in slot 19. The tumbler 17 is pivoted on the pin 20 which is a part of or is fastened to slide 5.
What we claim is A door lock comprising a casing, a bolt pivoted on a fulcrum which is integral with the casing, a concentric arm for engaging a keeper and a ,pin attached to the bolt near the fulcrum; a vertically slidable member which is operated by a key, and which has a horizontal slot one end of which is curved downward for engaging above mentioned pin, and a tumbler carried by the slidable member for engaging the vertically slidable member, at either end of its stroke.
