Description

1'. F. MoLoNEm( y Cre'a'sing Rolls for Leather Straps. N, 133,660. Patented vDena-1372.V
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. MOLONEY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CREASlNG-ROLLS FOR LEATHER STRAPS. d
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,666, dated December 3, 1872.
L'Iatm'c and Objects of Intention.
My invention relates to the construction of rollers for pressing the creases, waving, or otherwise, in the sides of leather straps; and my invention consists in the construction of the creasing-roller with rubber washers in the spaces between the two metallic creasers and the outer collars of the roll, and rubber Washer in the spaces between the two metallic creasers, and `in combination therewitlrof a peculiarly-shaped pressing-roll; the object of my invention being to providea pair of rollers which will ett'ectnally crease, in a wavy line, leatherhaving a crowning shape in crosssect-ion,- or form straight creases on leather not having a uniform thickness.
Description of the Accompanying Drawing.
Figure lis a perspective "iew of a creasingmachine embodying my invent-ion. Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the creasing-roll.
General Description.
attached, loose collar h", metallic creasers h h, and India-rubber washers hf hl'l. The parts of the roller HV are secured together by the nut I, which is iitted to a screw-thread upon the sleeve h. The pressing-roller J is formed with a central bead, j, and double conical exterior, as shown. the bead serving to give stiffness to the leather by the formation of a groove upon the under side, and acting in conjunction with the conical sides to give the necessary crowning shape to the leather strap on the crease side. lhe creasers h' may-be made to form a waving crease upon the leather, oreach creaser may be straight.
By reason of the introduction of the Indiarubber washers hm and h" the rollers are enabled to crease a wavin g crease upon a strap having unequal or crowning thickness in crosssection, or to crease in any Way a strap having unequal thickness in the line of its length, the rubber giving Way where necessary to permit the creasers to enter the leather, and following up to bind the edges of the leather in order to prevent. the curling up of the edges of the strap under the operation of the creasers.
` Claim.
i A creasing-roller for a' strap-creasing machine, embodying in its construction creasers h 'and elastic washers hm hm, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
JOHN F. MOLONEY.
