ROPE-CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Application filed June 24, 1918. Serial No. 241,616,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SvnN NILSON, a citizen of Sweden, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements-in rope clamps. The chief object of the invention is to provide means for binding or securing one end of a rope so that the rope may be stretched, drawn taut or supported in a certain position. A further object is to provide a device for binding the end of a rope without in any way damaging the rope. A further object is to provide novel means of the type specified, of simple construction, eilicient in operation and cheap to manufacture. Vvith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part f this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation and partly in section of my improved rope clamp illustrating its application.
F'g. 2 is an edge view of Fig. 1.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.
My rope clamp comprises a casing formed of the twin sections 1, 2 which sections are suitably riveted or secured together. The casing at one end terminates in the head 3, wedge shaped, the walls 4, 5 of which converge toward the smaller end of the head. The casing sections are formed with the oppositely disposed or alined slots 6, '7 in which are positioned the ends of the pin 8 upon which the roller 9 is arranged, said pin 8 also carrying the ends of a fork 10, the stem 11 of which is secured by pivot pin 12 in the recessed periphery of the disk 13 which is disposed in the slightly enlarged portion 14 of the casing fast upon, or integral with, the bolt 1 which extends through a suitable perforation in the casing and one end of which, disposed outside the casing, is made square in cross section to permit its operative engagement by a wrench. At the end of the casing remote from the head 3 I secure a screw 15 upon the bolt 16, said screw being adapted for engagement with a support to retain the casing in any position.
The operation is as follows: By means of a wrench applied to one end of the bolt lit the same together with the disk 13 is partially rotated to cause the fork 11, l0 and roller 9 to move from the position shown in full lines in Fig. l to the position shown therein in dotted lines, or to slightly retract said fork and roller within the head 3. This movement will afford su'liicient clearance to permit the rope I? to be inserted into the open end of the head 3 and passed about the roller 9 between the ends of the fork 10. The end of the bolt 14 and the wrench are now disengaged. Any attempt to withdraw the end of the rope 17 from the head 3 will move the fork and roller into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1 thus diminishing the clearance space between said roller and the head walls 4-, 5 and effectually preventing the withdrawal of the rope. When it is desired to withdraw the rope the bolt 1% is again moved by means of a wrench in the manner previously described.
What is claimed is In a rope clamp, a casing terminating at one end in a wedge-shaped head, a bolt r0- tative in said casing, a peripherally grooved roller arranged in said head to receive a rope and for cooperation with said head, a peripherally grooved disk fast upon and movable with said bolt, and connection between the said roller and the grooved portion of said disk whereby movement of the latter is transmitted to said roller to cause it to travel longitudinally of said head.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SVEN NILSON. Witnesses:
