To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Davie E. FREDERICK- snN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Kenosha, in the county of Kenosha and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gages; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention refers to new and useful improvements in gages, specially that type which is used for spacing and holding the parts of door frames and similar structure while the same are being placed in position.
Heretofore considerable diflicu ty has been experienced in properly setting door frames in that inefficient means has been lacking for holding the jambs properly spaced apart and in parallelism. It is well known that a door frame before being placed in position consists only of the jambs or vertical members and the cross piece. The difficulty was in holding the lower ends of the jambs the same distance apart as the upper ends which are supported and spaced by the cross piece.
My invention therefore has been designed with the idea of simultaneously spacing and holding the lower portions of door jambe and the like the same distance apart as the length of the top or cross piece and positioning said jambs in planes parallel to each other.
With this primary object in view the invention resides in certain novel features of construction7 combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention.

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken transversely of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the two figures of the drawing, it will be seen that the invention consists essentially of two somewhat similar members A and B, the part A having a spacing leg 1 and an end clamp 2, the other member consisting of a spacing leg 3, an end clamp 4, and guide yokes 5 and 6. The yokes 5 and 6 are preferably although not necessarily formed integrally with the spacing leg 3 and both project beyond one side thereof adjacent the free end thereof, they being spaced apart as clearly shown in Fig. 1 to slidably receive the other spacing leg 1.
Thus the two members A and B ar telescopingly disposed with respect to each other and are held in adjusted positions by means of a set screw suoli as the thumb screw 7 carried by the yoke G. The spacing leg 1 is graduated as at 8, the several graduations being adapted to cooperate with one edge of the yoke se that the distances between the end clamps 2 and -i may be accurately gaged.
Each of the clamps includes a clamp bar 9, said clamp bars being disposed at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the spacing leg with which they are respectively connected. Likewise each of the end clamps inclu les a fixed j aw 10 and a movable j aw 11, the latter eing held in adjusted positions by the thumb screw 12. rlhese movable jaws coperate with the fixed jaws to clamp the door ljambs, and, if the latter are engaged with said clamp bars 9 they will be held in parallelism so long as the gage is properly positioned.
Set screws 13 carried by the fixed jaw 10 also aid in retaining the door jambs in the clamps. Graduations 14 on the clamp bars 9 and the movable jaws 11 are adapted to co-act to accurately vary the distance tween the fixed and movable jaws.

The fixed jaw of the end clamp 1 is eX- tended inwardly in the direction of the leg 3 and substantially parallel thereto as at 16 and is provided with a pair of pins 17. The same extend outwardly and are inwardly converged, they being designed to receive the edge of a door or the like to hold the same vertical while one edge is being planed.
Various other modifications or additions may be made to the invention, as well as various changes in its structure without departing from or sacrificing any of the advantages as set forth in the following claim. At is therefore to be understood that the drawing depicts only one physical embodiment of the invention and that the same may be constructed of different materials and in several different sizes and proportions.
What is claimed is:
A gage of the class described comprising a spacing member, a transverse bar disposed at each end of the member, each of the bars being adapted to engage one side of a door frame, a fixed clamp jaw at one end of each of the transverse bars, a movable clamp jaw on the other end of each of said transverse bars, said movable clamp jaws being slidable toward and away from the fixed clamp jaw, said clamp jaws of each transverse bar being adapted to engage the opposite edges of the adjacent door frame side, and means for securing the movable clamp jaws to their respective transverse bars whereby to rigidly clamp the latter to the door frame sides.
