Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN WV. BURKE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Ventworth and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in cultivators, and pertains more particularly to the arrangement and design of the cultivator teeth, and consists essentially of a V shaped frame provided with a plurality of teeth having share shaped ends adapted to turn furrows in the earth similar to a plow, and arranged so that each subsequent tooth will take up a furrow adjacent to that turned by the preceding tooth, the teeth on one side of the frame being arranged to turn the furrows in the opposite direction to those on the other side.

The invention has for its objects to provide a cultivator which will perform its function more effectively and efficiently than those at present in use or used heretofore.

A further object is to provide a cultivator of the class specified which will be simple, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

These, together with other objects, may be attained by the construction, combination and arrangement of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

Reference may now be had to the drawing, in which:

Figure l is a plan view of my improved cultivator illustrating the arrangement of the teeth;

Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same; and,

Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed perspective view of one of the teeth.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

A indicates the V shaped frame of the cultivator, which is. provided with a rear cross member B.

The frame is provided with a plurality of rectangular vertical holes 2, a similar hole at the apex of the V, and, another in the central part of said rear cross member,

through which are passed the stocks 3 of the cultivator teeth, which are rectangular in cross-sections and correspond to said holes, for the purpose of preventing rotary motion and displacement. These stocks are held in vertical adjustment by means of taper pins 4 which are horizontally passed therethrough, and through the frame, in alinement.

The teeth portion 5 of the stocks 3 are share shaped, and adapted to turn furrows in the earth, being arranged in the order that each subsequent tooth shall take up a furrow adjacent to that turned by the preceding tooth, the teeth on one side of the V frame being adapted to turn the furrows in the opposite direction to those on the other side.

It will also be noted that the tooth carried by the rear cross member B, and which is in alinement with the tooth at the apex of the frame, is shared in the opposite direction thereto. This arrangement eliminates the channel which would otherwise remain in the center of the path of the implement.

It is desired to point out that the hereinbefore described method of securing the teeth to the frame is not essential, as any well known manner of securing interrelated parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, so having now fully and particularly described my improved cultivator, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

In a device of the class described, the combination with a V shaped frame including a rear cross member, of a plurality of share shaped teeth arranged in said frame so that each subsequent tooth turns a furrow adjacent to that turned by the preceding tooth, one of said teeth being situated at the apex of the V, and a tooth situated in said cross member and positioned to follow in the path of the tooth at said apex and shared in the opposite direction to the same, as and for the purpose set forth.
