Description

HIRSOH S- DANZIGER,
on NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPRQVEMENT IN INSECT PQWDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l33 63 l; dated December 3, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Hrnscrr S. DANZIGER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Insect-Powder, of
which the following is a specification: ,7
This invention relates to insect-exterminating powders made from the plant pyrethrum. Such powders are very light, and their particles have some tendency to adhere.
The object of this invention is to enable suchpowders to be used in an apparatus for which I filed an application in the United States Patent Office, August 16, 1872, or any apparatus of similar nature. In such apparatus the powder is dropped or showered alternately from one to the other of two or more narrow mouthed funnel shaped receptacles, whereby the air in an apartment may be so impregnated with the odor of the powder as to exterminate all insects without loss of the powder. On account of the narrow mouth of the aforesaid receptacles the powder in its simple state is so liable to stick andclog in the throats of the funnels of such apparatus that its use therein is hardly practicable.
This invention consists in the admixture l with such powder of sand or other heavy mineral substance, which, by reason of its granular nature and greater specific gravity, prevents the clogging of the powder in thethroats of the funnels and causes the powder to fall easily.
The particular kinds of the plant pyrctlz'rmn which I prefer to use are the pyrethrum 0mneum, pyrcthrmn cinemm'aqfolimn, and flora;- pyrcthri rose'i. The proportion of sand to be mixed with the powder may be varied considerably; butIhave found in practice that about two parts, by weight, of sand to one of the. powder gives a good result.
- Claim.
The admixture, substantially as herein described, with a powder made from the varieties of the plant pg i cthrum, of sand or other granular heavy mineral substance, for the purpose set forth.
HIRSOH S. DANZIGER.
