.FRANK E. WELLMAN, 0F KANSAS CITY. KANSAS, ASSIGNOR TO THE KANSAS CITY GASOLINE COMPANY. OF KANSAS CITY, KANSAS. A CORPORATION OF KANSAS.
SYSTEM FOR CRACKING MINERAL OTL.
Application tiled October 7, 1916.
Ile it known that l, FRANK E. WELLMAN, e eitizen ot' the United States, residing at Kansas City` county of Wyandotte, State of Kunsus, have invented eertuin new und use*- fnl lmprovexnente` in Systeme t'or (Hneking lllinernl Uil, of whieh the following iS u. speeitiention. reference living;l hud therein to the, :ieeonipzniying druwing.
My invention relitti-.el to the lrentlnent olf lil\il1'oeui|on oils und lum I'or it ohieet lln` improvenunt ol' appui-:ttm` used for thut pu rpose.
lt is eonnuon in sph-Ins for etui-king hyli'oc'urlions to empio)v n pipe still or retort heuted in u furnace to temperatures np to flou degree@` lf.. und eupuhle of retaining present-tw of (Suu pounds nud upnurd. Snell 'tlh nre liuhle to dunuige und destruction in une :my portion ol` the strut-ture `should `vield or leuk, Suih dunmge in often caused h r the uneven expaimion ol" the eoil duef to the limiting' ol` the eoil in Spotel luut'h higher thun is intendi-l when thil heut is lun-centr applied.
wordinnj to the pri-sent invention. I ene ploy the ymine frnrrul type of pipe still or retort referred to. hut iustend oF henting it. h r menu` of :l i'urnure. l iniei'l with the oil highl)V niperheuted nenni whieh im ywillieient to inuintuin u erniltintr temptwuture within the eoil und ulm inject superhented Htenln I'loni the `unie .douwe within u ineket ot' Suitf :dile insulating' nniterinl nhit'h Surrounds the eoil. Thus the telnpernt me in eausillv'win` trolled und uniform througfhmit` the `will or retort. The pressure is nlso controlled. hy regulating the supplyv ot' stezuu und h v i'oreing` the oil into the injector und eoil hy 'uitnhle ineens such ns .1 pump.
My invention is illustrated in the neeoxn |mnying diuwings in which:
Figurey l is n conventional diagram showing! the system :is n whole.

oil pipe lending to u pre-cooler T. N is a Spray nozzle. O is :L steam pipe containing' valve o.
The method of operation is follows:
Steam is generated in the boiler A and partially superheuted hy the action of the miek gases in the coil B. The steam then push-eh through the pipe and the Control vulve D to the suing-,ilienter F. It then pusees; through the pipe G sind is discharged into the ernrking eoil il through the nozzle N'. and into the space within the jacket. H through pipe (l. The ste-nm pressure is reguluteil hy the hond operated vulve D.
The oil to he treated i5' drawn hy the pninp l( from the tunlt L or soute other suitable reeeptncle. forced through the heating coil .l und diselnirged in n. tine spray into the ernehing' eoil ll through the nozzle N. Here the subdivided oil i5 cracked in oontaet with the highly Snperhezited steam und the prodnets pues through the pipe M through the preenoler rl` to uni' Miituhle cooling system.
The oil und steam ure injected into the eriwhino' (foil throng-h the spray' nozzle N. 'l"hi now/,le nonnisl's of :i jacket l into which the te-.nu i udmittzed through the connection Q. The oil enters through the pipe ll. The oil und steam :Ire niied und given u whirling' nfitiou through int'lined i'q'ieningy`4 in the tip o' the nozzle q :it the point wher(` the)Y enter the Coil.
The, rrnelingr eoil ll in preferably made up o't struight pipe Heetions ein-.h having mi internul dintneter of approximately 'four inehen. eonneeted ut alternate ends by the welded pipes 7i.. und inelosed Within n jacket ll of suitable insulating material to prevent the loss of heat.
lluving thus described my invention what l ehiiin und lenire to secure hy Letters Patent is Au uppurutns for treating' hydrocarbon oil vous-istinti of :i ernelingroil in n steam jiu-het insnhited to prevent loss of heet, :nehm `Vlor feedingr preheated oil into Suid vruehingeoil. ineen-in to simultaneously feed uperheuted slit-:ini in n. whirling spray into theoil in Suid coil, :ind tzo also simultaneously vl'eed superhented steam from the Seme sonree into the `nenni jueltet uround the Coil.
ln testimony whereof lnilix my signet-nre.
FRANK E. WELLM-w.
