Description

A B. FOANS.
WAGON SWING,
I APPLICATION FILEID MAR. 28,1919. 1,335,572. Patented May. 30, 1920 A TTORNEYS ANDREW B. FOANS, OF NEW YCRK,,1\T'. Y.
WAGON-SWING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Mar. 30, 1920'.
Application filed March 28, 1919. Serial No. 285,711.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW B. FOANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Swings, of
. which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined wagon and swing which is particularly useful for the amusement of children, and it comprehends means controlled by inverting the frame to place the wagon in action for stopping the movement of the swing.
The object of the invention is to provide the swing with a device to at times coact with the frame of the wagon for interrupting the oscillation of the swing.
The invention resides in the novel combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which 2-- Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical section showing the wagon in action.
Fig. 2 is a similar section showing the wagon inverted and the swing in action.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 4: is a vertical transverse fragmentary section taken along the line H of Fig. 1.
In the drawing the numeral 6 designates a pair of side frames each formed of longitudinal rails with connecting posts and a transverse bar 7 to hold the frames together. A shaft or axle 8 is journaled in the frames and it carries a pair of wheels 9 to at times coact with the ground. Opposite these wheels is arranged a steering device con sisting of a carriage 10 having anv axle 11 with a pair of wheels 12 mounted thereon. A bolt 13 connectin the carriage with the said transverse bar 5 permits oscillation of the carriage and wheels so that the vehicle can be steered in any desired direction.
A bail or tongue 14 connected to the axle is equipped with a handle 15 to draw the vehicle. When the wagon is out of action as indicated in Fig. 2 the bail is swun out of the way along the outer sides 0 the frames and is held by means of a clasp 16 embracing the handle.
Arranged between the frames is a swing with side frames 16 and a seat 17 located between the frames. A riser 18 adjacent to the seat supports the back of the operator and foot boards 19 are provided for resting the feet. The means for connecting the swing to the side frames of the wagon include four levers 20 each having one end 21 fulcrumed to the frame rails 6 and the other end pivoted at 22 tothe frame of the swing. I
When the wagon is in action as shown in Fig. 1 the swing gravitates downward and a pair of blocks or lugs 23 impinge on the rails of the side frames. The swing by being supported on the side rails will thus remain stationary while the wagon travels along the ground. When the wagon is inverted as shown in Fig. 2 the swing drops downwardly carrying the blocks away from the rails and the swing can oscillate freely between the side frames of the wagon. In this construction the transverse board 17 serves as a seat for the child when the wagon is in or out of action.
I claim:
1. A wagon comprising a frame having a plurality of wheels mounted thereon, a swing member connected to the frame, and means controlled by the position of the frame for interrupting the movement of the member.
2. A wagon-swing comprising a frame, a pair of axles mounted on the frame, wheels carried by the axles, a swing connected to the frame, and means controlled by inverting the frame for interrupting the movement of the swing.
3. A wagon-swingv comprising a frame, a pair of axles mounted on the frame, a pair of wheels carried by each axle, means for steering one of the axles, a swing connected to the frame, and means controlled by inverting the frame for interrupting the movement of the swing.
4. A wagon-swing comprising a pair of side frames, a pair of axles mounted on the frames, a pair of wheels carried by each axle, means for steering one of the axles, a swing connected to the frames, and means at times coacting with the frames for stopping the movement of the swing.
5. A wagon-swing comprising a pair of side frames, a pair of axles connected to the frames, a pair of wheels carried by each axle, means for oscillating one of the axles, my hand in the presence of two subscribing a swing arranged between the frames, a witnesses.
transverse seat located in the swing and lugs secured to the swing at times coaicting ANDREW FOANS' 5 with the frame to stop the Oscillation of the Witnesses:
swing. KATHARINE S. KEANE,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set WILLIAM MILLER.
