Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HIEAM w. FAUGETT, QE TITUsvILLE, AND THOMSON McGowAN, OF 'MEREDITH, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR 'REFINING HYDROCARBON OILS.
Specification forming part of Letters 'Patent No. 133,426, dated November 26, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HIRAM W. FAUCETT, of Titusville, Crawford county, Pennsylvania, and THOMSON MCGOWAN, of Meredith, Venango county, Pennsylvania, have invented an injector for the purpose of aiding in the evaporation of oils or other liquids, and for cleansing, rectifying, and refining the same by injecting liquids, fluids, vapors, gases, or other substances into the vapor-pipes of oilstills, or similar pipes from other vessels, of which the following is a complete description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, of which- Figure l is a general perspective view, and Fig. 2, a longitudinal section 5 Fig. 3, a vertical section.
To make others understand the nature and object of our invention we desire to state that the common method now in use for effectin g the condensation of vapors is that of allowing the pipes coming from the still or vat, and containing the vapors or gaseous products, to pass through cold water by means of various and different arrangements until the condensation is vcomplete. Our improvement consists in introducing into the vapor-pipes V V V pipes T T T, of smaller diameter, extending the necessary distance within the vapor-pipes V V V, and for the purpose of injecting liquids, iiuids, vapors, gases, or other substances, as may 'be desired. The vapor arising from the still'S is thus met by the liquids, gases, iiuids, vapors, or other substances from the pipes T T T before passing through the water-box W.
We do not broadly claim condensing, rectifying, and refining oils by injecting into the vapor pipes of stills or vats such liquids as are useful in condensing and refining oil and other liquids, as such is not new; but
We claim as our invention- The arrangement of the supply-pipe B, injecting-pipes T T, and vapor-pipes V V,'combined and operating in connection with the still S and water-box W, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
HIRAM W. FAUCETT. THOMSON MGGOWAN. v
