To all whom it may concern ile it known that I, ARTHUR O. MAULDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kannapolis, in the county of Cabarrus and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Toy-Cap-Exploding Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and more particularly to toys for use in exploding or bursting the usual toy explosive or fulminatingcap. An object of this invention is to provide a toy cap exploding device of novel construction and incorporating meansfor automaticallx feeding the explosive caps from a magazine or container into the explosion chamber.
Another object of this invention is to provide a toy cap exploding device which may be carried by the user in the manner in which the conventional walking stick or cane is carried and which device will automatically explode the fulminating cap or pellet when its lower end is struck against the ground.
A further object of this invention is to provide a toy cap exploding device of generally improved construction, whereby the I ,device will. be simple, durable, and inexpensive in construction, as well as convenient, practical, serviceable and efficient in its use.
iVith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combina-v tion and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiments in the accompanying drawings, wherein;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, parts appearing in section.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a supporting member or frame comprising a tubular portion or member 5 having elongated slots 6 formed therein for the reception of a pin 7 that extends transversely through an elongated rod or handle member 8, thereby slidably securing this rod to the tubular portion 5 of the supporting member.
A relatively short tubular portion or sleeve 9 is formed on the supporting member for the reception of a short bar 10 that is rigidly secured to the sleeve 9 by means of. a pin or other securing device.
A combustion receptacle 11 is secured to the opposed end of the bar 10, and a combustion chamber 12 is formed in this receptacle. Outlet orifices 13 extend radially from the chamber 12, and av radialchannel 14 also communicates with this combustion chamher. A tubular magazine 15 is carried by the supporting member and the lower terminal of the magazine communicates with the channel 14, the opposed or upper terminal of this magazine having a cover or closure 16 threaded or otherwise secured thereto.
The supporting member has a laterally extending projection 17, to which a bell-f A firing stem22 extends through an aperture 23 formed in the explosion receptacle 11, and an enlarged foot 2 formed at the outer or lower end of this stem. Secured to the stem 22 is an enlarged head 25 that is positioned within the combustion chan'iber 12 and the lateral edge 26 of this enlarged head that is disposed adjacent the channel 14: is sufficiently broad to prevent an explosive cap from being caught or trapped under the enlarged head 25 during the operation of the device. The foot member 24 is normally held in spaced relation to the receptacle 11 by means of an extension spring 27 that surrounds the stem 22.
In operation, a number of explosion caps C are placed within the magazine 15 and then the handle member 8 is held in the hand of the user in the manner in which an ordinary walking stick or cane is supported, This causes the handle 8 to rock the bellcrank lever which, in turn, slides the plunger 21 toward the combustion chamber 12 and feeds one of the caps C from the magazine into the combustion chamber. Now the foot member 24 is struck sharply against the ground which moves the firing stem upwardly against the tension of the spring 27 and causes the enlarged head to impinge against the cap C and explode it- Within the combustion chamber 12. As the foot member 24: strikes the ground this causes the handle member to slide clownw'vardly and rock the bellcrank lever thereby Withdrawing the plunger from the combustion chamber and allows another cap to gravitate into the channel 14: preparatory to another operation of the device.
Having thus described my invention What is claimed is: i
'1. A device cf the class described including a supporting member, a handle member slidably secured to the said supporting member, a magazine carried by the supporting member, a combustion receptacle carriedby the supporting member, said receptacle having a channel formed therein which communicates with the magazine, a plunger slidably mounted in the said chan nel, a lever fulcrumed to the supporting member andoperably connected to the handle member and plunger and adapted to automatically feed explosive caps from the magazine to the explosion receptacle, and means for exploding the said caps.

A device of the class described including a supporting member,'a tubular member carried by the supporting member'a handle member slidable within the tubular member,- a-tubular magazine carried by the suprp'orting member, a combustion receptacle carried by the supporting member, a plunger slidably' mounted within the combustion receptacle, a lever *fulcrume'd t0 the supporting member and having a short arm 7 and a relati'vel 'v long arm, the short arm being connected to the handle member and thelong arm to the said plunger and adaptmember, a combustion receptacle carried bythe supporting member, said receptacle having a combustion chamber formed therein. outlet orifices communicating with the said chamber, a channel leading from the said chamber and 'ooimnunicating with the magazine and an aperture communicating With the combustion chamber, a plunger slidably mounted within the said channel, a lever fulcrumed to the supporting member and operably connected to the handle member and the said plunger to automatically feed explosive caps from the magazine into the combustion chamber, a firing stem slidably mounted Within the said aperture, an enlarged foot carried by the said stem, a compression spring surrounding the said stem and adapted to engage the enlarged foot and the combustion receptacle to normally hold the foot in spaced relation to the said receptacle, an enlarged head secured to the said stem and adapted to impinge against the explosive cap. 7 Y g V In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
