This invention relates to oilice appliances of which the tol- .and has particular reference to copy holding machines wherein the line to be copied is indicated in a manner such that the operator may readily `check his work as the saine progresses. y
The primary object oic this invention is to provide a copy holding and line indicating ineanswhich is readily adapted to be used with statements having any length or line spacing.
Another object of this invention is to provide the copy holding means with a line spacing arrangement which is at all `times positive `in its action as well as easily operated, also inexpensive to ,constructV and maintain. i
lVith the above and many other objects in view which will be readily apparent as the nature ot' the invention is Vbetter understood,
the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully pointed out, illustrated and claimed.
It, 'willk be quite readily understood by those skilled in the art to which this inveiition belongs, ythat the saine yis susceptible of some struc-tural change or modification without departing from the' spirit or scope of the invention, but a preferred and practical embodiment ot the invention is shown inthe accompanying drawings in whicli- Figure 1 shows a front elevational view of the present invention.

In the construction of this device I have endeavored to eliminate all unnecessary elei ments, such as those that add to the initial cost and perform no independentand useful' function and kto this end the present invention consists essentially ot a base board designated by the numeral. 10, having attached thereto` two cylinder supporting brackets 11 and 12, each of which preferably take a triangular 'forni with inwardly eX- tending webs 13, which together with the integral face piece` 14 gives the requiredr rigidity as well aslightness to the construction. i
At the apex ot each triangular bracket the faces 14 terminate in a circular basev 15, which is perforated as shown at 16, for the purpose of formingy a journal bearing for a rod 17 which carries avr rotatable druinlS, around whichv the sheet to be copied from is placed. j v f The drinn 18 is preferably formed fromr sheet metal, of asuitable thickness, which is secured to annular rings 19, positioned at either end, as shown in Fig. 1 of the draw-` ings.
The drinn 18 is further provided with a sheet holding device 20, having the ends turned upwardly, inwardly, downwardly and outwardly such, as to passthrough a suitably positioned opening 21 in the drum `1S and to enter an opening' 22 inthe web 23 where the same is fulcrumed, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
For the purpose of producing a suitable-y tension on the rod 2O there is provided a y spring 211, the end 25 of which is secured to the drum 18 through suitable fasteningV means 26, while the free end 27 engages the `inwardly extendingportion rof the rod-20,4 and serves to keep the same drawn down on the surface of the drum.
For the ,purpose of rotating the drunilS the required amount for single line spacing there is provided a `drum rotating device, consisting essentially of a lever 28, which is adapt-ed to be fulcruined at 29, and havingV provision at the end 30 for atta-ching thereto a vertical rod v31, the upper-end 32 ofv which is adapted to be secured to a lever 33, which'is fiilcrumed on the rod 17 as shown in Fig. 1 ot' the drawings.
