IMPRQVEMENT EN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,379, dated November 26,1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Bo it known that I, GEORGE W. MOLLI- NEAUX, of Marble Hill, in the county of Bollinger and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Washing-Machine, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a pairof horizontall y-reci procatin g washin g or rubbing boards, suspended adjustably from slides upon the cover, with their rul'ibing-surfaces on the under side, to work on the top of the clothes, which rest on a stationary ribbed-board, and the sides of the tub are provided with vertical ribs for acting upon the clothes. The rubbing-boards are suspended from a vertically-adjustable cross-head, mounted on rods rising up from the slides, and held down upon the clothes with the required pressure by friction-pawls on the cross-head, held on the rods by springs. allow the top to be lifted. The slides and rubbers swing out of the tub when the cover is raisedLto facilitate the adjustment of the clothes.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a wash-tub, of one or more horizontally-reciprocating and verticallyadjustable rubbingboards, F, substantially as specified.
2. The lever O, pivoted to the stationary cover P at Q and to the alternately-reciproeatingl slides H by stud-pins R workin g in slots S, all combined as specified.
3. The combination of the said reciprocating rubbing-boards, the slides H, rods G, crossheals K, and rods L, substantially as speciie 4. The combination, with the rods L and the cross-heads K, of the pawls M, vand pressuresprings, substantially as specified.
5. The slides for supporting the rubbingboards and actuating them, arranged on the top of the tubs, substantially as specified.
