LAWRENCE E. coNNELLY, or CLEVELAND, oHro, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF 'ro WILLIAM c. CONNELLY, or CLEVELAND, OHIO.
STEAM-BOILER FURNACE.
. o I To all whom 2t may concern:
Be ;it known that I, LAWRENCE E. Corr.
. NELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Boiler Furnaces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates 'to steam boilers and consists in certain improvements in the arrangement of'baflie plates hereinafter explained and pointed out,"-and illustrated in the. accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l, is a cross section of a fragment of a mud-drum of'a water tube steam boiler showing myjmproved b'aflle'wall associated therewith. I,
Fig. 2, is a flplan view of, afragment of my improved ba e Fig. 3 is a plan" view of pieces thereof separatedd Fig. 4, 1s a nd 'view thereof placed to gether.'
parts shown inFig. 2.
In these drawings A indicates the mud drum of a water tube steam boiler of the Stirling type; B indicates the rear bank of water tubes, and B indicates the rearmost row of water. tubes of the bank of tubes Fig. 5,"is edgewise view of in front of the bank 13'.
inserted between the tubes B as shown in Fig. 2, the upper ends of which are hooked into clamps f secured on the last or rear Specification of Letters Patent.
circular recesses in the adjacent edges tubes B.- of the bank of tubes in front of the bank B; said plates F extending downwardly in spaced relation to the drum A and terminatingin a pocket 6 in the .top of the wall E, where they are embedded in Patented Mar. 16, 1920. Application an February 20, 1918. Serial no. 218,261. i
asbestos or other suitable material which will allow relative movement of said plates. Upon these plates F I secure a series of plates G and G which are provided with substantially semi-circular recesses adapted to embrace the tubes B'and at the same time overlap each other to prevent the escape of gas between said plates, as shown 1n Figs. 2, and 4. These plates G and G are also provided at one end thereof with offset flanges 9 adapted to overlap the next succeeding plate vertically, as shown in sire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A baffle for water-tube steam generators consisting of a series of plates placed between rowsof boiler tubes, and a series of rectangular plates supported on said first mentioned. plates, said rectangular plates having substantially semi-circular recesses in adjacent edges thereof receiving and embracing the boiler tubes, said rectangular I plates overlapping each other longitudinally and transversely substantially as described.
2. The combination in a fire-baffie for water tube steam boilers of a bank of tubes; a series of plates between rows of said tubes; and a series of rectangular plates supported on said first mentioned plates, said rectangular plates being shingled and overlapping each other longitudinally and transversely, and having substantially semithereof embracing said tubes, as set forth.
3. The combination in a fire baffle for substantia water tube steam boilers of a bank of tubes, ping the next adjacent rectangular plate a series of plates between rows of-said tubes, transversely of said baflle, substantially as aseries of rectangular longitudinally overset forth. 7 lapping plates having semi-circular recesses In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. in adjacent edges thereof embracing said LAWRENCE E. CONNELLY. boiler tubes, each rectangular plate being Witness: provided at one. end with a flange overlap- J. D. COLLINS.
