IMPROVEMENT lN COQLERS FOR ALE, BEER, AND WATER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,352, dated November 26, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, IRVING ERSKINE, of Bowling Green, in the county of Wood and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improved Ale and Beer Cooler; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, and to the letters and figures marked thereon.
My invention relates to an apparatus for cooling beer, ale, and water; and it consists of a cylindrical vessel provided with receptacles for beer, ale, water, and ice, each receptacle having suitable inlets and outlets, and the whole covered by a lid of proper construction, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure .1 is front elevation of my cooler. Fig. 2 is a 0on tral vertical section taken in the line a as of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the bottom. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the top, the lid being removed.
A represents a cylindricalvessel having a double wall, filled in with charcoal. plaster of Paris, or other suitable non-conducting substance. This vessel is provided with a suitable base and with a lid or cover, B. Two chambers, O C, are arranged within said vessel in such a manner as to leave a space, D, all around between said chambers and the outer wall; and, as these chambers are annular, or nearly so, a chamber, E, is formed, which communicates with chamber D through openings at a. in the wall separating the two chambers G G. The chambers O O are made of zinc or galvanized iron, and are formed either by securing a cylinder, b, to the bottom of the vessel A, and then attaching the parts 0 C to said cylinder b, or by forming two nearly semi-cylindrical chambers and securin g them to each other by a strip of metal, as at (1. These chambers'O O are designed to con tain, respectively, ale and beer, and have cocks e f, whereby they are filled, and are also provided with cocks g h for drawing off the liquor. The pipe of cool: h may be made to pass under chamber 0 to 0, as in the drawing, or the two may be placed at one side, opposite the water-cock 1'. The water-cocki passes through the outer wall, and serves to draw off the water from chamber D. Chain her E is the ice-receptacle, and as the ice melts the water passes out through openings 0, a into the water chamber D. The cover B is provided with a downwardly projecting flange, K, which fits into the chamber E and more effectually excludes the air, and hence the ice is better preserved. Openings 1 Z are made in chambers O O, and provided with suitable plugs or caps, whereby access isliad to them for cleaning.
In my invention a beer, ale, and water cooler are combined in one apparatus, andthe liquors can be transferred from the barrels to the cooler without losing any of their gases, thus preserving the purity and flavor.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-=- 1. The chambers C G, constructed substantially as described, and provided with inlets and outlets, as herein set forth.
2. The combination of the chambers (l C, ice-receptacle E, water-space D, vessel A, and cooks c f g h i, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth and described.
3. A combined ale, beer, and water cooler, constructed and arranged as herein shown and described.
