Description

APPLICATION FILED AWL-1,1918.
Patented Mar. 9, 1920.
. INVENTOR fl-Mli'firetzky.
' WITNESSES ATTURNEYS HARRY M. KORETZKY. OF BROOKLYN,
NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH SATLOW, OF
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
LAMP AND REFLECTOR HOLDER FUR FLASH-LIGHTS.-
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 9, 1-920.
Application filed April 1. 1918. Serial No.225,9t 3tl.
l te it known that l. HARRY M. Komz'rzlt r. a citizen of the l'nitcd States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brook l n. in the county of Kings and Htatc of New York, have invcnicd a new and Im pron-d Lamp and Reflector ll ldcr for Flashlights. of which the following" i a full, clear. and exact description.
This invention relates to flashlights. and
has to deal more particularly with the hold lug means for thc l't'iittll)! and incandescent lamp.
The object; of thc invent inn l\ to provide a comparatircly imple and ini-xpcnsire con-- struction. reliable and i-tlicicnt in use. and so designed as to insirre good electrical ((Jl]ll( ttions hctwt-c-n the tti'lliltlzih of the lamp, thehattcry and the switch. and also to prevent the weight of the hat er from acting on the lamp in a (lcsli'llctiflmanner. it
A more specific ohject'ot the invention is the rovision of a liunp reflector holder .ot' that type which includes a inc-ta] .disl; her ing means for attaching thc rcllcctor thereto. and with which the movable c nta t of the switch is adapted to connect. there being novel int-ans for attaching the reflector to the disk and insulated therefrom, and also novel means carried hythe disk hut insulated therefrom for forming a protector for the lamp against the acti n of the weight of the battery, which protector also serves an electrical comwction with the central contact of the lamp.
lVith stich and other objects in View, the invention rompriscs various novel features of constructi n and.arrangement of parts which will he set. forth with particularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates certain embodiments of the invention and wherein similar characters-of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views,
Figure 1 is a Side View (if a. flashlight with a portion in section to show the details of- I that show'n in Figs. 1 and 2, except'that the .metai disk G'is made with a central threaded to receive the screw base of the the invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlargei'l sectional view of the reflect/or and lamp holder and lamp protector; l r
Fig. 3 a rear View of the lamp and reflector holder with portions broken away and in section:
socket 6 Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view of a mbditied form of the invention;
Fig. 5 is a detail Sectional view of another modified form; and
l ig. 6 is a sectional View on the line 6-6, Fig.
Referring to the drawing. l designates the casing if an ordinary flashlight, which car Pies a switch 3 on the outside and contains a battery 3, a reflector l. a lamp 5, and lamp re ilcctor holding means A. The device A comprises a metal disk 6 which is secured to i disk of insulation 7 by spaced peripheral lags which are anchored in recesses 15 in the periphery of the insulation 7, and the center of this disk has an opening lO, the edges of which are hclically formed to constitute a thread ll with which the scrmrhase 12 of the lamp .3 engages. The periphery of the metal disk 0 is adapted tobe engaged by the spring contact 13 of the switch 2.
The reflector 4 is connected with the insulation disk 7 by means of a metal diskobt which has a central opening provided with a circnlar flange 15 which is headed to the sin; 16 of the reflector 4. and on the periphcry of this'disk H, which is of less diameter than the metal disk 6. so that the contact 13 cannot. engage with it, are peripheral lugs 17' interlocking with the rccessesiS in the periphery of thedisk 7. Hector holder fornis a support for the protector for the lamp, which is interposed be tween the hatter and the central terminal. 19
which the terminal 24 of the lamp isadapted to engage, it bein nn'delstood that the central tcrminall) o the cell bears against the bridge-piece 20, so that electrical connection is'made through the latter and 00:1
tact 23 with the central terminal pf the lamp.
The lamp'and rerercnt contact of the too In Fig, 4- the'construction is the same as",
lamp. n
In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the disli of insulation-7 is bounded by a circwnferential metal ring 25 which is elcctri call y connected by a pin 26 with the central screw on the socket 27 which is anchored in the central opening of the disk 7, so that when a lamp is inserted in the socket 27 the metal base of the lamp will be-electrieally connected with the ring 25, which is adapted to be engaged by the spring contact of the flashlight switch. The protector 20 has its extremities anchored in the disk 7. At tachcd to the disk 7" is a plate 28Which has an annular flange 29 to which the neck 30 of the reflector 4 is beaded, said plate 28 being provided with anchoring lugs 31 which pass througlrthe insulation 7.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination of a reflector, an insulation piece having an aperture, a metallic member anchored to the front side of the said piece and having an aperture provided with a forwardly extending flange, said reflector having an opening and rovided with a flange having a beaded connection with the first-mentioned flange, and a metallic member having a central portion forming a lamp-receiving means and a peripheral portion forming a contact. V
2. The combination of a reflector, a member to which the reflector is rigidly fastened,
an insulation piece on which the member is anchored, a metal member attached to the insulation piece and havin a central means for receiving a lam soc et, a peripheral portion adapted to orin a contact, and :5 amp protector attached to the insulation piece to protect the base of the lamp when in position;
3. The combination of a reflector, a disk of insulation, means for attaching the reflector to the said disk, metal means having a central lamp-holding means and having its periphery extending beyond the periphery of the disk to form an annular electrical coir tact, and a lamp protector attached to the disk and brid ing the lamp'holding means.
4. The com ination of a reflector, a disk of insulation, means for attaching the reflector to the said disk, a metal disk having a central lamp-holdin means and having its periphery extending eyond the periphery of the disk to form an annular electrical contact, a, lamp protector attached to the disk and bridging the lamp-holding means, said protector com 1 of metal, and a metal spring contact carried by the protector for engagement by a lamp when inserted in the lampholding means.
