WILLIAM RIBEATTY, or HAMMOND, INDIANA-L Be ft known that I, WILLI M R. Emmy,
a. citizenof the United States, residing at Hammond, in thejcou-nty of Lake State of Indiana, have invented 'certa'infne'fwhnd useful Improvements in Goinbina tionl unch,
Shear, and Coping Machines, offwihic'h the 7 followingis a s'ecification, reference ibeing i had therein to t e accom anyi g"drawings.
jyThlS inventionrelatesto a winbination punch, shear and copingmachinefiand has for its object the construction of a compact I and eflicient machine that will enable-the operator to place the machine ina compar tively small space," and "throughi -which inachine several operations or functions o can'be obtained thathave heretofore i lYZ een aQ-o i complished through ithejmediuni of separate 1 and independent ,inachines I bodies a peculiar and:efiicient'iramethat carries the difier'ent'types ofltool devices as well as thef dr'iving gear' for these devices, together with a motor, all assembledf in a compact and relatively simple nanneri'or the purpose'desired'."
A still further object oflm'y' for punching, shearingand copingythat is ofa compact structure by reason of its pe- .culiar frame, and whlchmachine 1s 'soiarranged as to, have only one driving jun1t,'fand j geared up ;to this unit are tool devices that stopping the motor. 5
With these and other objects iin view, iny
invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts aswill be hereinafter specificallyde scribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appendedclalms. V
In the drawings, g Figure 1 isfa view inside elevation of a machine constructed in accordance with the present invention Fig. 2 is an endview in elevationiilooking at the arch section ricd thereon, while s Fig. 3 is an end view in elevation, looking at the punch devices.-

comprises the i foundation, upon which rests the base 2 ofthefrarne.""The franiejconiprises the open-end sction .-3,'the arch sect10n 4;, with the yoke "SGCtlOll 5 spanning the d'rivinggear gapf an connected at the loweriend'of ts legs? and 8 to the'openend 'section' and thef arch section, respectively. It will be understood that portions it 0f the 'base 2 are preferably integral with the open-end sectionj3 and the arch section o o o H 4, andjco1nprise a necessarvpart "of these Another objectof the invention is the construction of a (combination machine for working upon 'metal products, which-c111 sections. The'tbase ispreferablj divided at Ineans,' fas bolts or-rivets 10 con 's'titutes,:vvith; its coordinate parts, a
fpulnchingfmachine combined in a peculiar manner in the combination that l have in-:
@ventedi The punching't'ools aredriven by the constrnc'tionlof'a combinationniachine the niain-onpriinary shaft 12, which, shaft 9, and this divided structure is connected by" fastening (F -7 a lThe'open-eiidsection 3 is provided with punching tools 11 this openeend" section 8 restsfixponflintegrallbracket 18 of the secv ftion'fjit. Thev lower'en'd sor feet'of 'legs i and {'8 are securely fastened: to bra'cketsdTand I8 byiin'ean's preferably bolts 19. An auxiliary shaft 20, is j ournaled upon the upper portions of the'legs 7 and 8,-and attached to onc endof shaft 20 fly-wheel21, and at the" opposite e1 1d is gear wheel 22, j which wheel meshes with'the small gear 23 of the motor 24; the lmotor 24'isfastened to the top of the'arch section 4 by means of pref;
erably a side bracket 25 which is bolted 26 to the top of the arch section 4 (Fig. 2). Vithin the yoke, and fixedly secured to the auxiliary shaft 20, is a smallgear 27, meshing with the .large' driving gear 28. The
large or primary gear 28 is fixedly secured to portions of the primary shaft 12, and
gear 28 is fastened to the clutch members 13. A bracket 29 is bolted tothe lower end of the long leg 7 of the'iyo'ke section,'and another bracket 29 is bolted. to the integral bracket 18, within the gap 6; Piv'otally mounted upon brackets 29, and 29" are the pedal-actuated devices O for shifting or actuating the clutch devices for causing either end of the primary shaft 12 to be'driven with respect tothe, primary gear 28, at the will of the operator, for operating the tool devices carried by either section 3 or 4.
It will be noted that within the driving gear gap is mounted driving means con- 7 trolled by a clutch me'chanism for driving,
ably engage the guiding plates at the will of the operator, either or both the metal-working tools carried by the open-end section or the arch section. The specific structure of these tool devices is subject matter for separate applications for Letters Patent and are not specifically described in this application asI make no claim for the specific type or structure of these tool devices. The arch section" is'provided with plates or guide means 31, between which is slidably mounted ram 32. This ram comprises a ,central body 33, reinforced on each side by vertically-extending webs 34;, and its base 35 is provided with a plurality of apertures 36, in which apertures 36, are-placed the bolts'37, whereby parts of thetookdevices are directly bolted to the ram 'The ram is provided with end flanges 38 which slid- 31, andjthe ramis in-cut at '39, forming pockets (39),
. in which pockets are seated thelower ends t are carried by shaft 12, and when shaft 12 of eccentrics 40 (Fig. 1) these eccentrics is rotated, the eccentrics will raise and lower the ram, 32' Apertures 4E1 (Figsae and (3) are vformed in the flanged ends 38 of'the ram, and registering with. these'apertures' 41, in the same horizontal plane, are pockets 42, which apertures 41 and pockets 42 receive pins or suitable fastening ineans whereby the eccentrics 40 are ,p'ivotally fastened to the rani'32.
' The arch section; is provided with a bolster 4:3, to ,whichfbolster is. fastened, by
7 means of 130111344, parts of the tool devices;
it will, therefore, beseen that bolts 37, carried by the ram, and bolts 44:, carriedby the bolster, provide fastening meansfor attaching the tool devices to the arch section of the-frame of the machine. In Fig. 1. I have shown the tool devices carr ed by the arch In amach'ine of combination of frame, a driving shaft journaled' u'p onsaid frame, a ram including a bodyandflanged ends, said body and section being a flat bar shears 45, a round bar shears 46, and an angle bar shears 17. Secured to the outer face of the arch section is a coping tool device 48. All of these'devices are actuated or driven through the medium of the main or primary shaft 12.
It will beseen that I have produced a coin-7 V pact machine, inv which one primary sectionaldriving shaft is coupled by a clutch mechanism with drivingmeans, whereby a pluralityzof different types of tool devices unaybedriven or actuated from the same the only novelty in thisjcase, as certain othercombinations are specified, and, therefore, I desire it to be clearly understood that in the extensive manufacture of this machine, it
may be found? necessary and desirable to make certain minor'changes or alterations as shall appear to on skilled in the art'to which this invention relates; therefore, I reserve the right to make such alterations or changes or deviations as shall fairly fall within the'scope of the appended'claims.
. What'I claim is:
classdescribed, the
flanged en ds ;provided witheccentric receiv- 'ing pockets and each end provided with a horizontal aperture, the body contiguous to the pocket provided with a second pocket contiguous to the" eccentric receiving pocket,
eccentrics on said shaft and seated insaid eccentric receiving pockets of the ram, fastening means extending through the 'aperturesofthe flangedv ends of the ram and throughthe eccentrics and into the second pockets in alinement with the apertures on t the ends of the ram, anda metal-working device carried by the ram and the frame.
2. A frame for a machine of the class described comprising an open-end section and an arch section provided with adrivin'g gear gap therebetween, and coping means supporting means formed upon the outer side or end of thearchsection. i
In testimony whereofI hereunto affix my signature. a v V WILLIAM R. BEATTY.
