Description

M. C. BRINSER.
Hnges for Sewing-Machine Tables.
N0, 133,298,` Patented Nov. 26,872
UnrrnpV STATES PATENT OFFICE,"
MATHIAS C. BRINSER, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO JOHN M. KEIPER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HINGES FOR SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,298, dated November :26, 1872.
OASE B.
To all whom fit may concern.:
Be it known that I, MA'rrrrAs G.' BRrNsnn, of the city of Lancaster, inthe State of Penn sylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Table-Hinge, of which the following is a specification A The nature of my invention relates to the change of a few elements in a certain tablehinge for which Letters Patent were granted bearing date April 16, 1872, No. 125,657, in order to simplify and eheapen their construction.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the improved hinge, in which Figure 1 is an edge view, and Fig. 2 a top view, of the hinge coni-4 bined; Fig. 3, shown with leaf down. Fig. et shows the attached pin.
The improvement consists in casting the long part B of the hinge with the pin I), connected with the projecting heel vor end bolt D, and in dispensing with the oblong slot or hole mentioned in the claim. Also, the independent pin P, previously shown, is now attaehed, and forms a part of the bolt end D, and, instead of a slotted ease and socket, E, claimed,.I nowr cut away the socket, except a rear check-lug, F', on the short portion F of the hinge; and by cutting out the sides of the case in part I simply leave a pair of rightangled hooks or keepers, E E', 'under and against which the cross-pin P of the bolt or heel D Works to and fro, being arrested by the cross lug or base of the casing formerly used, thereby dispensing with drilling holes through the sides of the case or cap E for the a pin P, as formerly shown and described. The oblong screw-hole G and side flanges c, with their claws, also iit into the grooves f on each sideof the slotandheelcombinationoftheparts, which is essentially the same, as is the opera tion. But by the alteration the whole is simplied, and can be gotten up cheaper, and more readily attached. The open space behind the hooks E will allow the fixed pin P to enter down upon the plate-in front of the lug F', and so as to bring it under the hooks E on each side of the slot, which latter receives the heel or bolt end D, which projects t also beyond the pin I), marked d, which projection lodges against the under side of the socket-lug F', and aids in holding the hinge or wing of the table to which it is attached; at the same time the rounded flanges c rest upon the projecting grooved ends f, as formerly, to stiii'en the hinge to support the wing of the table; to drop the wing, it is only necessary to draw it out, to disen gage the projecting end dfrom the partial socket under the lug, which brings the pin under the horizontal ends of the hooks E, and holds the Wing as formerly.
What I claim as my improvement is- A table-hin ge provided with an open slot and right-angled keepers or hooks E E', and with projecting grooved ends f, and a socketlug F', in combination with the projecting end d of the bolt or heel D, with its Vcross-pin P, and clawed side pieces c, all constructed and operating jointly in the manner and for the purpose specified and shown. l
