ROTARY PUMP.

, My invention relates to pumps and more particularly to fluid pumps of the rotary ty e.
An important object of this invention is to provide a rotary pump having novel means for reversing the direction of flow of the fluid.
A further object of this invention is to rovide a rotary pump capable of pumping fluid in an even and uniform flow.
A further object of this invention is to provide a rotary pump having a plurality of pumping plungers or pistons and novel means for reciprocating the pistons whereby the same are caused to pump:
A further object of this invention is to provide a pump of the character described which is eflicient in use, of highly simplified construction and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the in vention will beapparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a central vertical section through a pump embodying my invention,
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section through the same taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and,
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front elevation of a fluid conveying disk embodied in the invention.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates the base of the pump on which is mounted a pair of annular supports 11 which in this case are adapted for supporting fluid conveying disks 12 and 13. As clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, a rotor 14 is disposed between the disks 12 and 13 and is connected employed to a power shaft 15 by bolts 16. As illustrated in Fig. 1, a chamber ring 17 surrounds the rotor and is disposed between the disks 12 and 13.
The disks 12 and 13 are provided in their inner faces with annular grooves 18 and 19 respectively. The grooves 18 and 19 are in communication with lateral passage ways 20 and 21 respectively. The passage ways 20 and 21 are adapted for connection with fluid conveying pipes, one of which may be for inlet while the other is employed for discharge. The groove 19 of the disk 13, as illustrated in Fig. 2, is in communication with passage ways 22 of the chamber ring 17. The passageways 22 are in communication with compartments 23 of the chamber ring. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the compartments 23 are at diametrically opposite points in the chamber ring and are located at the inner side of the same. Disposed between the compartments 23 and at diametrically opposite points in the chamber ring is a second set of compartments 24 having communication with the annular groove 18 through passage ways 25.
As illustrated in Fig. 1, the rotor 14 is provided with a plurality of radial cylinders 26 receiving plungers 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31. A cam 32 is mounted on a standard 33 and is disposed within an opening 34 in the central oortion of the rotor. The cam 32 is pro vided with a cam slot 35 of approximately an oval shape and receiving transverse pins 36. The inner end portions of the plungers are connected to the pins and are directed inwardly and outwardly in the cylinders by the movement of the pins 36 in the cam slot 35. During the rotation of the rotor in the direction of the arrow, the plungers draw a quantity of fluid from one set of compartments within the chamber ring, and dis charge the fluid into the next compartment.
Assuming that the chambers 23 are in communication with the supply pipe and that the chambers 24 are in communication with a discharge pipe, the plungers will be drawn inwardly from the chambers 23 and thereby draw fluid within the cylinders from these chambers. During their movement about the compartments 24 the plungers will discharge the fluid within their cylinders into the compartments 24.

As illustrated in Fig. 2 packing 38 is arranged in grooves 39 in the rotor and is held in position by rings 40 having screw threaded engagement with the disks 12 and 13. The outer portions of the disks 12 and 13 are-provided with annular layers of packing 41 which surround the edges of the rotor and prevent the leakage of fluid from the grooves 18 and 19. Packin rings 42 having threaded engagement wlth the disks 12 and 13 securely retain the packing 41 in position.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what 7 I claim is 1. A pump including a rotor having a plurality of radially disposed cylinders, plungers mounted within the cylinders, a chamber ring surrounding the rotor and having a plurality of compartments communicating with said cylinders, stationary fluid conveyers arranged on opposite sides of said chamber and in communication with the compartments therein and means to reverse the flow of fluid through the pump.
2. A pump including a rotor having a plurality of cylinders, plungers mounted in the cylinders, a chamber ring surrounding the rotor and havinginlet and discharge compartments, a plunger reciprocating memher and means to reverse the relation of the compartments of the chamber'ring to said plunger reciprocating member.
3. The construction set forth in claim 2, and fluid conveying members in communication with the inlet and discharge com partments of the chamber ring.

The construction set forth in claim 2, and a fluid conveying disk rigidly mounted on each side of the chamber ring and having annular grooves with which the compartments of the chamber ring registers during either direction of travel of the 5. A pump including, a chamber ring having inlet and discharge compartments, a rotor mounted within the chamber ring and having fluid transferring means, a fluid conveying member arranged on each side of the chamber ring and having fluid conveying grooves communicating with the inlet and discharge compartments of the chamber ring, and means to reverse the direction of the flow of the fluid.
6. A pump including a rotor having a. plurality of radial cylinders, plungers mounted in the cylinders, a chamber ring surrounding the rotor and having discharge and inlet compartments, fluid conveying disks arranged on opposite sides of the rotor and having annular grooves therein,said chamber ring having passage ways connecting said compartments with said grooves, and means to reciprocate said plungers whereby fluid from the inlet compartments is conveyed to the discharge compartments.
7. A pump including a rotor having a plurality of radially disposed cylinders, plungers mounted in the cylinders, a cham ber ring surrounding the rotor and having alternate discharge and inlet compartments in communication with said cylinders, a power shaft for rotating said rotor, an oval shaped cam element having an oval slot, pins carried by said plungers and slidably mounted in said cam slots, and a handle connected to said chamber ring and adapted for-changing the relation of said inlet and discharge compartments to said cam element.

A pump including a rotor having a plurality of radial cylinders, plungers mounted in the cylinders, a chamber ring surrounding the rotor and having alternate discharge and inlet compartments, inlet and discharge fluid, conveying disks arranged on opposite sides of said chamber ring and having annular grooves in communication with the compartments of the chamber ring, a cam element having connection with said plungers for reciprocating the same whereby fiuid from the inlet compartments is conveyed to the discharge compartments, and a handle connected to the chamber ring for rotating the same whereby the inlet compartments are converted into discharge comrocating said plungers whereby fluid is inlet and discharge compartments into distransferred from the inlet to the discharge charge and inlet compartments respectively. 10
