SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET.
" Brackets, of which the following is'a speciimproved brackets.
fication. 1
The invention seeks to provide, as its principal object, a shade roller bracket particularly adapted for attachment to a wirdow frame. without marring the latter, the device efiecting a clamping grip on the upper transverseportion of the inside architrave of the frame.
A further object of the invention is to provide adjusting means contained in the device whereby the latter may be adjusted to suit various widths o'fsuch inside architrave as before mentioned, they adjustment being of a character to make any adjustment obtained positive.
A still further object of the'invention is the provision of a device of thischaracter which is simple in construction, durable and effective in operation and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other and further objects will appear in the following detailed description.
I To the exact construction in which it is shown and described, the invention is'not to be restricted. The right is reserved to make such changes or alterations as the actual reduction to practice may demand, in so far as such changes or alterations are comprehended in spirit by the annexed claims.
In theaccompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevationalview of the top inside architrave of a window frame, a pair of the improved brackets being shown attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the Fig. 3is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modification of one of the clamping members comprising the bracket. 7
Fig. 6 is a top plan View of the structure shown in'Fig. f i I Referring to the drawings, there is shown the upper architrave 1 of a window frame to which are attached the two improved brackets, the two being identical with the is a section on the line4-4 of Specification of Letters Patent.

exception of the one being the reverse of the other because of mounting on opposite sides of the window frame. Since the two brackets are alike a description of the one will suflice for both. The bracket comprising the clamping member is formed substantially in the shape of an L, thus providing the leg 3 and the leg 4.-. This clamping memher 2 is made preferably of sheet metal of sufficient thickness to permit its retaining its shape after having been once formed. At a selected point in the leg 3 of the clamping member, the stock of "which the clamping member is made is bent at rightangles to itself, then again bent into a plane parallel with the plane of the leg, then bent back again toward the le thus providing an inset portion 5 in whic i there is carried the arm 7, the main or body portion of which is provided with the slot 6. This inset portion 5 is so formed as to provide a trans versely disposed rib 7 on its outer face which rib may engage in the slot 6. The
arm 7 is secured to the clamping member 2 a Between the stud and its point of connection with the bodyportion of the arm 7, the right angular-1y disposed portion 8 is providedwith theshade roller stud receiving recess 10. This recess 10 is made either rectangular or round in shape, depending on whether it receives the round or fiatted stud of the shade roller, there being of course two of the brackets now being describechone of which hasthe round recess and the other the rectangular.
Coiiperating. with the clamping member 2 there is a second clamping member 11. Thislatter is also L-shaped, being formed with the legs 12 and 13. The leg 12 on its innerface has secured to it a felt or rubber mat 14 to prevent its scarring the window operatively connected together by means of a screw 15, which if to be tool-operated is provided with the usual kerf for a screw driver, or if to be hand-operated, is provided with the usual wings.
The clainping member 2 has formed in its leg 3 between the inset portion 5 and the lower extremity the longitudinalslot 16 and on that face which faces the leg 12 of the clamping member 11 is provided with the.
A screw 19 passes trzmsyersely through the leg 4 of the clamping member :2 with which leg it threadmgly engages and this screw is designed for setting against the upperedge ofthe architrav'e 1.
In the attaching of the invention to awlndow frame, the clamping members 2 and 11 are adjusted sothat the legs 4 and 13 are a distance apart slightly greater than the width of the architrave 1, the screw 15 be ing loosened toxeifect this adjustment. on the retightening of the screw after the adjustment has been obtained, the engaging of the teeth 17 and 18 serves to positively maintain the adjustment. The bracket is then in condition for attachment to the archi- V trave, the legs 1 and 13 being made to straddle the latter so that the mat ll lies against the other under edge and screw 19 brought above the upper edge of the architrave." The tightening or screwingdown of the screw 19 then brings the lower or free. end into. engagement with theupper edge of the archi trave, thus securely attaching the device in place, When the two brackets comprising a pair'have beenthus attached on opposite sides'of a window frame having been given the properpositions apart, they are in condition to receive in 'the'recesses 1Ov a shade roller and on the studs 9 a curtain pole which has previously been provided with holes in which the'studs may engage.
"In Figs. 5 and 6 there is shown a modified form of clamping member to be used in placeof the clamping member- 11, vThis clamping member is provided with a leg 30 identical with the leg 12 of the clamping member 11, so that it may be attached to the clamping member 2 in thesame way as is the clamping member all. This leg 30 is formed at'its lOWer end with a right angularly disposed portion 31 constituting a clampingjaw designed to engage the under edge fof the architrave. This portion 31 is covered onits upper face bv arubb'er or felt mat 32 to prevent its marring the architrave when the device is attached. This modified form of clamping member is made preferably from one piece'of netal which, after be ing formed to provide the legs 30 and 31 is twisted through an angle of 90 at the end of the portion 31- to provide the extension 33, the face of which is intended to lie in a plane parallel with the plane of the window frame, between the sash and the architrave. This extension 33 is formedso that its offset forms the edges of the legs 31 and. 30 next to the window fra1ne, so that the extension 33 will bespaced from" the window frame where it faces the latter. The extension is then inturned at the end providing a foot'3 1 which rests against the side of'the frame ad j acent to the sash. At a pointbetween the foot 34: and where it connects with the por-' tion 31, the extension is provided with a transverse hole 35 in which the roun'd stud of a shade roller may be supported; Ofcourse the bracket'used on the opposite side ofthe window -will be provided with a recess formed on the upperedgeofthe extension 33, the recess being of the'usual shape to rereive the flatted stud of the shade roller.
This modified form of clampmgmember is designed to support shade rollers where they are held in between the side of the window frame, such as is customary in case of 1 very thick house walls with the resultant increased thickness of window framing; V
e In the event that the improvedxbraeketis i used on a window frame of which corner blocks'form a part of the architrave, the 7 7 the usual block projecting out beyond the face of the architrave. i
The invention having been describedwhat 1s clalniedas newand useful 1s:
A device of the kind described comprising" arm 7 may be attached to'the clamping mema duality ofL-"sl1aped clamping members,
means adjustably connecting the? clamping members together, the one of said members havingan intermediate portion ofits longer leg offset to provide an inset on the rear face thereof, the said offset portionon the outer face having a transversely disposed rib, an
arm provided with means "for supporting a shade roller and being formed with a longitudinal slot through which said rib passes, a screw whose shank passes through theoffset portion and the rib and whose head restsin the inset, and a nut threadingly engaged with the shank of the screw and bearing uponthe arm.
In testlmony whereof I afiix my-sign'a-ture.
