awuemtoz cfienrlns L. wnciir, or LoGaNsron'r, INDIANA. I
wnEnLEn TOY) To all whom it may concern: Be it known thatI, CHARLES L. Wncrrr, citizen of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the county of Cass and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wheeled Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention. pertains to wheeled to S. V. V f
)ne of the objects of the invention is the provision of a: toy comprising a rolling ground memberlor wheel and a frame mem-,
her; the frame member beingformed of a single piece of wire that is connected of itself to the rolling ground member and is continued at right angle to the axis of the rolling member thereby contributing at once to the cheapness of the toy and the capacity of the same to withstand rough usage.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of awheeled toy in which the frame member alluded to is utilized to carry a frame or figures simulating soldiers and a piece of ordnance. 1
.Another ob]ect..1s the provision of a wheeled toy in which the wheel or rolling ground member and the frame are combined to give thertoy a clacking. or noise-making capacity of function.
Other advantageous features of the invention will be fully understood from the following description andv claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:. 1
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the toy constitutingthe noise-making embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective of the frame.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a figure-bear ing embodiment.
Fig. 5 is a plan View of said embodiment. Figs. 6, 7 and 8 are views of another embodiment of the invention, equipped with a carriage body for the reception of a doll or the like. i
The embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1, 2
and 3, is made up of a rolling ground-memher or wheel 1 that is made of'any suitable material, and is provided with a central Specification of LettersPatent.
portion-7. The journal portion .5 is disnted Feb.24,19'2o. Application filed Marches, 1919..Serial-No.284,92 1 H posed'in the bore ofthe member-4, and the arms 6 reach radially from the endsofthe.
- in turn, merges into the handleportion 4.
Theother arm'fi at said point is 1ooped,-as
shown in Fig. 3 to seat the rear of the handle portion 4,and the latter loop merges, 111' turn, into the rearwardly-directed terminal portion 7 which; constitutes a, support. At 8 is a ratchet which is possessed of resiliency and rests under its inherent yielding pressure against the grooved peri hery From of the wheel or ground-member 1. this'it follows that when the toy is pulled or pushed through .the medium of its handle portion 4 it will produce a clacking noise calculated to excite the interest, of and amuse a child. It will also be noted that thecwire frame is strongly connected of itself to the wheel 1 without the assistance, of.
extraneous means which conduces materially to the cheapness of the toy. Y
Bent upon the wire frame of the toy and thereby secured to said frame is a platform 9 which receivesthe terminal portion 7 of:
the frame and thereby is more strongly connected-to the frame. The ratchet, tegral with saidplatform 9,.
At 10 is a figure formed of wood or other and connected to the support 7.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the rolling groundmember 1 is in the form of a spool, and the wire frame thereof is e uipped with an ordnance figure 1.0 and a platform 9, the latter serving to carry two soldier figures 11, one positioned at either side of the piece of ordnance.
The embodiment shown in Figs. 6, 7 and 8 comprises a rollingground member 1", a wire frame similar to those before described, a platform 9 designed to serve as a foot rest, and a body 13 adapted to receive and carry a doll or the like, and being connected I portion of the figure 10 is disposed above to ana's'up'peaea by the rearwaraiy-aireaea terminal portion 7 of the wire frame. "The rolling ground member '1! instead of being in the form of a spool, as illustrated, 'may cons'istof two'disks connected by a hollow axle.
twill that each and every one of the embodiments of my invention is possessed of the salient features ascribed tothe invention; also, that each embodiment is simple, is susceptible of being quickly and easily produced without theemployment of expensive machinery, is
sturdy and'stro'ng, and is calculated to 'af-- ford considerable amusement to a child.
Having'described my invention, what I also having ail arms one of which is o'ined through a rightangle bend to the'handle portion and the other of which 'mer es into a support that is disposed in sai rightangle "bend. r
2. Ai wheeled toy comprising arolling ground member having a bore, a rectangular frame formed from a single length of wire bent into shape and including a jour nal portion disposed within said bore, bail arms and a handle portion, one of said bail arms merging into said handle portion by a v partial loop and the other bail arm engag ing by a right angle bend within's'aid loop and terminatingin an upwardly directedsupport. 7 r
3. AWheeled toy comprising a rolling ground member having a bore, a rectangw lar frame formed from a single length of wire having one portion engaging revolubly Within said bore and its opposite porhe apparent from the, foregoing" jifon ip rovided with a handle, anapwardl directed curved arm formed upon one. end of saidwire afidlocated at the center of said second named portion, and avbody carried by said arm. 7
4. A. wheeled toy comprising a rolling gr-dune member having a transverse bore, a. one'piece wire frame having a journal disposed in the bore of the rolling member, a forwardly directed handle portion, and a rearward'ly directed support, a platform secured eaaherram and receiving said support, "and a. body secured-upon and carried' by said support. r I
5. A; wheeled toy comprising a rollingground member having 'a bore, a recta ngu:v ar frame formed from a I single length of Wire having one portion engaging revolubly within said bore and its "opposite portion provided with a handle, an upwardly directed curved arm formed upon one end i of "said Wire and located at the centergof said second named portion,"a body carried by said arm, and a sheet metal platform secured upon sa-idframe and having a hole for the passage of said arm.
A .wheeled toy --compri'sing a rolling ground .member having a bore and :a trans versely grooved periphery, a frame formed from a single length of wire having "a ou-r--- nal portion engaging within saidbore and a handle portion, an upwardly extending curved arm formed at oneend of said-Wire, a body carried by said arm, and apl'atform secured upon said franiefand having a hole for the passage of said arm, the end'o'f said platform adjacentsaid ground member be ing formed as a resilient tongue engaging the periphery of the' groun'd member.
In testimony whereof l affixmy signa ture in presence of two witnesses.
