In order that the said invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect we will describe the same more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 are vertical sections of a trunk piston and connecting rod with cross pin connection of the improved type, and

The main brass D, which is in this case at the top, is bolted to the web f of the piston F, by bolts d* (Fig. l) and also passed through and secured to the lower brass D', supporting the ends of the pin B, at the short Aunder surfaces b2. Four bolts al* are employed, two on each side of the B is the upper one and the piston pressure isdirectly taken by the full length of this upper face. The pin is hollow and is closed at its ends by the two screwed plugs b4. As j the cross pin B is entirely inside the piston the piston walls are unpierced.
In the construction illustrated in Figs. 3'
and Ll, the cross pin B is fixed on the head or fianged end c4 of the connecting rod El by the screwed studs c5 which screw into the base o3 of the pin, the construction allowing of an increased bearing surface b1 as compared with that of the pin shown in Figs. l and 2, the effective surface b1 eirtending through a larger angle. The piston is made in two main parts F1 and F2 bolted together through the webs ,f1y and f2 by the bolts f3 and at the sides by the long stud bolts f6, the upper web f1 having a semi-cyt which receives the main brass D, while the lower brasses D1 are held in the recessed parts f5 of the lower web. rlhe pin B extends through the piston from side to side, so that the maximum bearing surface is obtained, bot circirnferentially and longitudinally. lVhat we claim and desire to secure Letters Patent of the United States is:

A hollow engine piston for use with a connecting rod having a cross pin'providing an 'uninterrupted part cylindrical bearing surface, comprising two main cylindrical members, a connecting transverse web in each member, formed with a part cylindrical bearing surface for the cross pin and means for connecting the two members together with the pin between them.
3. A hollow engine piston for use with a connecting rod having a cross pin providing an uninterrupted part cylindrical bearing surface, comprising two main cylindrical members, a connecting web for the outer member formed with an unbroken semi-cylindrical recess receiving the projecting surface of the cross pin, a web on the inner piston member recessed to receive the ends of the cross pin and means for connecting the two piston webs together with the cross pin between the two webs.
