Description

c. J. SALVIOLO.
DISPENSING CAN.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE H. 19l9.
, Patentd Feb. 10,1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, CARMINE J. S ALVIOLO, OF BROOKLYN, YORK.
- :qrsrnns me-can.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb, 10, 1920,
Application filed June 11, 1919. Serial No. 33,383
To all whom it may concern Be it known that'I, CARMINE J SALvrono,
' a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented certain new and useful I mprovements in Dispensing-Cans, of wlnch the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dispensing cans and more especially to receptaclesto contain powder, granulated material or p1lls and its object is to provide a vertlcally moving cup to-be located in the nozzle of a box or can and adapted to be filled with powder when the" box is inverted. To discharge "the load of'.powder a leyer pivoted 1n a slot in thenozzle is operated from the outside and is connected with and moves the cup toward an opening which is normallyclosed but whose -cover is a branch of the lever. therefore depressed'it opens the cover and causes the cup to discharge the desired amount of the contents bf. the box. The
cover prevents deterioration of the materialand it can, be displac ed when the box is" re-.
versed.
These and other objects and detalls of the invention are more fully described in the follow'in specification, set: forth in the appended c aims and illustrated in the accompapying drawings, wherein:
' pow er to which the invention is applied.
" Fig. 2 is .a verticalsectional view of the f a Fig. 3 is a similar view inverted and with I 'the' cover open. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the cup removed. I I
Fig. 5 is a detail of a modification. i
The attachment is of three pieces and without any actual connections. The lever I playing in the slot 5 of the nozzle 6 and con- I sisting of a flattened thumb 1ece 7 the cm cular cover 8 and an arm 9 within the nozzle, the latter having the hanger 1i 0 The arm slot 13 of the hanger and the notch limits the downward movement ofwthe cup and it will be seen in Fig. 2 that the cover 8 limits the downward movement of the lever and its parts while the outer movement is limited by the legs 14 of the cup.
the cup 12.
When the box or can is reversed a certain quantity of-the powder therein is taken 1 When the outer end of the lever isre 1 is a side elevation of a box for the'notch 10'and carrying 9 fits through and plays in a the le s 14 and ,When the thumb piece is presse inward, the arm and cover are also thrown down, the arm carrying the cup which forces a certain amount of its contents outward through the hole 15.
The cup 12 is normally held down by a spring 16 struckfrom a steel bar 17 lodged in the base of the cap 18 and passing into a slotin the lip 19 that depends from the cup. 1
' The whole mechanism is very simple and cheap with no pins or pivots and the parts are few and not liable to get out of order,'.
the lever being fulcrumed in the side of the nozzle and the bend of the arm making it difficult to remove it.
into the cup through the spaces between g It is evident that its use need not be confilled to solids nor powders but. that in certain instances it may be constructed and arranged to dispense liquids in small quan titi'es.
. may be reduced to a mere skeleton so that the action of the spring is for the closing ,of the cover alone. l In prder that the operating lever may .not be actuated accidentally while being shipped or when'in a traveling bag, or on being dropped it maybe provided With a keeper 19 pivoted beneath the thumb piece 7 and adapted to come in contac't with the "-cap 18 so that the thumb piece cannot be depressed, but the latter may be-released by throwing the keeper out into theposition shown. in dotted lines and the lever may then be operated.
-What I claim as new is:
1.. In a dispensing can, the combination of a nozzle having an opening, a cover for the opening,-a cup normally below the nozzle,
' and means for slmultaneously raising the cover and advancing the cup.
2. In a dispensing can, the comblnatlon of a nozzle having an opening, a cover for a nozzle havin le legs adapter 'to play into the nozzle,
the one'iii'ng, a cup suspended below the nozzle, and a lever adapted to open'the cover and advance the iup.
3.1n a dispensing can, the combination an opening, a cupwith A cover for the opening, and' a lever carrying the cover and adapted to advance the cup.
4. In a dikpenr'ing can, the combination .1 fnnozzleliaving an opening, a lever com:
prising u 'cup'foi' the opening. a thumb piece on. the lever, an awn at one end of the lever,
a ciip below' the nozzle and having guide "legs to play therein, means connecting the May, 1919. CARMINE J. SALVIOLO.
