Definitions
- the invention relates to bricks having vitreous or glass faces, ad'TtlTe-object ofthe same is to provide the bricks with a backing or body part composed of-heat-insulating material and adapted particularly for the outer walls of ovens and like structures, t0 prevent the escape of heat therefrom and to overcome' deterioration of the outer e surface thereof from an excessive temperature.
- Numeral 1 designates a vitreous facing member havinghthe dovetailed ledge 2 projecting from e back thereof, and interlocking with the backing or body part 3 of the brick.
- the vitreous facing member may be of well-known type, formed in the usual manner; and the backing or body part is composed vof heat-insulating material consisting of infusorial earth mixed with a heatresisting ce'ment binder, and molded t0- vgether with the facing'member to' form a brick of Aconventional size adapted to be bonded with adjacent bricks forming the main wall of the structure.
- a brick comprising a body portion formed of-inf11sor1al earth united together by heat-resisting cement to form a cellular block, and a facing member of relatively harder material anchored in said block.

Specification of lLetters Patent.
Patented Feb. 10, 1920.
Application led April 12, 1917. SeriaiNo. 161,618.
'To all 'whom z't may concern: l v
g Be it known that I, JOSEPH C. EMLEY,
i .citizen ofthe United States, and resident of Melrose Park, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improve- 4 l 'binder is proportioned to effect a close ments iny Bricks, of which the following is a specification.
' The invention relates to bricks having vitreous or glass faces, ad'TtlTe-object ofthe same is to provide the bricks with a backing or body part composed of-heat-insulating material and adapted particularly for the outer walls of ovens and like structures, t0 prevent the escape of heat therefrom and to overcome' deterioration of the outer e surface thereof from an excessive temperature.
In describingl the invention in detail, refv erence is had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part ofl this speciication,
and in which: p l
Numeral 1 designates a vitreous facing member havinghthe dovetailed ledge 2 projecting from e back thereof, and interlocking with the backing or body part 3 of the brick. l V- The vitreous facing member may be of well-known type, formed in the usual manner; and the backing or body part is composed vof heat-insulating material consisting of infusorial earth mixed with a heatresisting ce'ment binder, and molded t0- vgether with the facing'member to' form a brick of Aconventional size adapted to be bonded with adjacent bricks forming the main wall of the structure.
The mixture of infusorial earthand to forma cellular block, and a facing mem- 'ber of relatively 4harder material anchored in. said block.
2. :A brick comprising a body portion formed of-inf11sor1al earth united together by heat-resisting cement to form a cellular block, and a facing member of relatively harder material anchored in said block.
Signed at- New York, in the county of New York and State of Newy York, this 10th day of April, A. D. 1917. y JOSEPH C. EMLEY.
