WINDOW-BLIND.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 13,300, dated July 24, 1855.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, FRANK CHASE, of South Sutton, in the county of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Construction of IVindow-Blinds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l, is a front view of my improvement. Fig. 2,-is a transverse vertical section of ditto, the plane of section being through the center.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two igures.

The nature of my invention consists in the peculiar construction of the blind whereby the sun is preventedpassing throughthem and at the same time light and air admitted..

I construct my improved blind by having a rectangular frame formed by securing two stiles A, A, to top and bottom rails B, B. The stiles and rails are of a proper width and thickness according to the size of the blind.

To each side of the frame I nail oblique or diagonal slats C, leaving spaces between the slats equal to about half their breadth.

The slats are nailed in the same position or at the same angle at both sides of the frame, the slats on one side of the frame being opposite to the spaces between the slats on the opposite side, see Fig. 2, and as the slats are double the breadth of the spaces it will be seen that the sun cannot pass. through the blind and at the same time light and air are admitted through.

The advantages of the above invention is that the expense of construction is materially reduced below that of the ordinary slat blinds. There are no mortises or tenons to make, nor rods and Wires to get out of re pair. They are very ornamental when adjusted in pairs to a window and make a strong and durable blind.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Constructing blinds by nailing or securing oblique or diagonal slats to both sides of a frame, the slats on one side of the frame being opposite to or covering the spaces between the slats on the opposite side as herein FRANK CHASE.
