Speciication of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920..
Application led April 2, 1919. Serial No. 287,062.
To ZZ whom. t may concern.'
Be it known that l, JULIUs BROMBACHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Gas- Burners, of which the following is a specification. f
My invention relates to a gas burner particularly for water heaters, and its objects are to provide a simplek and economical burner that may be constructed of an open casting or be pressed, in which the back firing and the annoying report of the extinguishment of the flame is revented; in which dirt and sediment may e readily collected and removed by inexperienced hand, and which may be easily assembled.
Other objects will appear hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawing showing my invention in 'its preferred form, and in which Figure 1 is aplan view partly p broken to illustrate interior view;
gig. 2 is a side view partly in section, an
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of 'one of the segmental plates. y
Particularly referring to the drawing, the invention comprises a substantially annular Ibody 1, having integral radial hollow members 2, conjoined at or near the center. The annular body l is formed with a channel provided with means 3 dividing said channel into a plurality of chambers 4, with which the passageways in said hollow members 2 are in communication, and through which the gas is conducted through a gas inlet 5, provided centrally of said radial members 2. In each chamber 4 of the annular body 1 is secured by bolts 6, or other means, a segmental plate 7, having a radial arm 8, the plate and arm respectively forming a cover for the chambers 4 and hollow members 2. The underside of each Asegmental plate is provided with a plurality of compartments 9, severally communicating with each chamber 4 in the annular body 1, and the outer wall of each segmental plate 7, and each compartment 9 thereof, provided with a plurality of port holes 10, which constitute each segment 7 a multiple burner, the gasl volume entering the chamber 4 through the hollow members 2, being divided among the various compartments 9 of each segmental plate.
Between each segmental plate 7 and each chamber 4 in the annular body l, is interposed a screen l1, for preventing the iame from communicating combustion to the gas volumein the chambers. From these chambers, the sedimentary matter, water of condensation, and other foreign substances, that collect therein, may be readily removed without skilful employment, and the gas is thus kept clean and at a constant even flow.
These screens are secured or held in place by bolts 12 or in any other manner.
Each radial arm 8 of each segmental plate 7 is provided with a lug or pin 13 for'the accommodation of a shouldered anchor plate 14, which holds the radial arms 8 in tight engagement with the tops of the hollow members 2, and which anchor plate is secured by a bolt 15, which extends therethrough and through the gas mixing cham- 'ber 16, upon which the annular body is also held by the bolt 15.
What l claim is l. A burner comprising an annular body formed with a plurality of chambers and a plurality of radial hollow members centrally conjoined and forming an inlet, a segmental plate disposed above each chamber and provided with a plurality of compartments sevorally communicating with each chamber, and each compartment provided with a plurality of port holes, each segmental plate having` a radial arm forming a cover for said hollow member, means to anchor the ends of said radial arms, and means to hold said anchoring means.
2. A burner comprising an annular body having a plurality of chambers, and formed with a plurality of radial hollow members. a segmental plate secured to the top of each `of said chambers, and having a radial arm forming a cover for said hollow members. each ofY said segmental plates having a plurality of compartments and port holes. means to secure the ends of said arms, and screens interposed between said segmental plates and chambers.
3. A burner comprising an annular body having a plurality of radial hollow members, said body provided with a plurality of chambers communicating with the passageways in said hollow members, a segmental plate upon each of said chambers, each said plate formed with a radial arm for covering said hollow members and with a plurality of compartments on the underside, each of Which compartments is provided vlwith a plurality of port holes,
ltermed -with ,a plurality and means to secure' the ends of said arms in position.
4:. A burner comprising an annular body formed with a plurality of chambers and with a plurality of radial hollow members, a plurality of segmental plates upon said annular body, each provided on the underside thereof with a plurality of ported compartments communicating with the chambers in said annular body, .said segmental plates formed with radial varms covering said hollow members, and means to secure the end of said radial arms in position.
5. A burner comprising an annular body l of chambers, and with a plurality of radi-al hollow members,
` aplurality of segmental plates upon said annular body, each provided on the underside thereof with a plurality 'of compartments communicating with the chambers in said annular body, and the outer walls o said segmental plates and compartments thereof provided with a plurality of port holes, said segmental plates formed with radial arms covering said hollow members, a plurality of screens lbetween'said segmental plates and to secure said arms
