GUIDE-CARD.
Application filed March 26, 1917, Serial No. 157,297. Renewed September 10, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST E. YAXLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guide-Cards, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in guide cards and refers more particularly to a device for use in card systems of the drawer type.
Among the salient objects of the invention are to provide an index or guide card which is soanounted to readily present to the eye the identifying data contained on the guide card; to provide a construction which can be economically manufactured, readily attached to the card and in which the slip containing Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the cards to each of which is secured-at its upper edge a. guide tab designated as a whole 2. The framework on this tab is or may be formed of a single piece of sheet metal stamping and comprises an attaching portion 3 and an index receiving channel 4. The index receiving channel 4 consists of a back poition 5, horizontally extending outturned flanges 6 and 7 and inturned vertically extending flanges 8 and 9.- The flange 9 is preferably integrally connected to an extension 10 of the attaching portion In.
, the present instance the members 9 and 10 are formed by bending the extension 10 rearwardly and then back upon itself. Extending longitudinally at the back of the channel is an inwardly projecting rib 11 which'acts as a friction member to more securely hold the identifying slip 12 in place. This slip 12 is confined in position by the channels and is held between rib 11 and a celluloid or other transparent face 13. If desired, the

transparent face can be dispensed with although it has a tendency to-keep the identifylng slips clean and also assists in confining The rib 11 acts in conjunction with the channel members to frictionally hold the identifying slip in position. This identifying slip can contain any suitable information, or data, as is well known in the art.
The attaching portion 3 of the card is provided with a. plurality of eyelets 14 which are stamped out of the sheet metal itself and readily secured into the card as shown clearly in Fig. 2.
I am aware that heretofore various forms of index tabs have been designed but none of them combine the advantages of the present invention so far as I know.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination with an index guide card, of an indicating tab therefor, comprising a flat vertically extending attaching portion secured to the card adjacent the upper edge of the latter, an extension of said attaching portion extending above and rearwardly of the attaching portion, a slip receiving channel having a confining riband projecting rearwardly from the attaching portion, the lower side of the channel-having a flanged portion lined parallel with and connected to the extension of the attaching portion. k
2. The combination with an index guide card, of an indicating tab therefor, comprising an attaching portion secured to the card adjacent the upper edge-of the latter, an extension of said attaching portion extending above. and rearwardly ofthe attaching portion, a slip receiving 0 nnel, projecting rearwardly from the attaching portion, the lower side of the channel having a flanged portion lined parallel with and connected to the extension of the attaching portion.-
3. The combination with an index guide card, of anii'ndicating tab therefor, comprising a flat vertically extending attaching por- .tionsecured to the card adjacent the upper edge of the latter, ailextension of said attaching portion extending above and rearwardly of theattaching portion, a slip receiving-channel having a confining rib and projecting rearwardly from the attaching portion, and a. member connecting the chan' nel with the attaching portion.
ERNEST E YAXLEY.
