Re it known that GUSTAV E. ANDERSON, a subject of the king of Sweden, but a declarant of intention of becoming a citizen of the United otates, residing in the city of South Bend, St. Joseph county, Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Air-Valves and Primers for lrnternalombustion Engines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combination device for automatically supplying pure air tothe explosion chamber of an internal combustion engine and for automatically priming the motor.
An object of my invention is the production of the device of the character described which is cheap, easily constructed and quickly applied to an internal combustion engine. Another obj ect is the production of an automatic air inlet valve of relatively small area and size as compared with the regular fuel inle-t valve to supply pure air to the explosion chamber of the motor on each suction stroke of the piston and for the full stroke or movement thereof for enhancing the motor flexibility, increasing the power of the engine, effecting a more rapid acceleration of the engine, and for minimizing the engine vibration when in operation.
Another object is the production of a priming device in combination with an air inlet valve for an internal combustion engine which automatically opens on the suction stroke of the engine piston, whereby the priming fuel is drawn into the engine cylinder and by the piston movement and thoroughly vaporized into a combustible mixture. Other objects of my invention are hereinafter described.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is well illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a viewin elevation of the invention; and Fig. 2 is a section in elevation through Fig. 1.
Similar numerals of reference refer to similar members and parts of members throughout the several views on the drawings.
On the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a body member detachably joined to a plug thread connection at 3, the member 2 being rigidly screwed against a shouldered portion 4 interiorly of valve seat-7 upon which the valve 8 is .ar-

The numerals 17, 17 indicate nuts screw threaded upon the stem extension 13 for confining the spring upon the stem and for adjustment of the spring tension. y
In operation, as an air inlet valve, the valve 8 is opened and pure air is drawn past same through the apertures 24 and 25 on each suction stroke (being the fuel intake stroke) of the engine piston, whereby a quantity of pure air is introduced to the combustion chamber of the engine cylinder for the full suction stroke of the piston, said valve closing automatically upon'the completion of the piston stroke. For priming the engine the cup 21 is filled with gasolene,
g sus or other suitable liquid fuel, the chamber 10 being filled simultaneously through the apertures 24 and 25, the fuel being held within said cup and chamber until the suction stroke of the engine piston is started in any manner, whereupon the valve 8 opens slightly and the fuel passes into the engine cylinder through conduit 20, being thoroughly vaporized into a combustible mixture thereby.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising cooperative body and plug members rigidly joined together, said members having intercommunicating parts forming a valve chamber, said valve chamber having an outlet which is permanently open, and said body member having a reduced upward extension portion which is provided with a Huid supply chamber and a valve Stem guide bore above said chamber, said supply chamber having an inlet opening adjacent the upper end thereof; a spring controlled valve in said first mentioned chamber, said valve having a stem which traverses said supply chamber and is slidably arranged in said guide bore; and a separate piece fuel receptacle mounted upon said body portion and arranged around said supply chamber inlet.
2. A device of the character described comprising cooperative body and plug members rigidly joined together, said members having intercommunicating parts forming a valve chamber, said valve chamber having` an outlet adapted to be placed in permanent communication with the explosion chamber of an internal combustion engine, and said body member having an upward extension portion which is provided with a uid supply chamber and a valve stem guide bore above said chamber, said supply chamber having an air inlet opening adjacent one end thereof; a, conical spring controlled valve in said valve chamber, said valve having a stem which traverses said supply chamber and is slidably arranged in said guide bore; and a fuel cup mounted upon said body eX- tension portion and arranged around the inlet opening of said supply chamber.
