WINDOW-SCREEN.
Application filed November 19, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFERSON F. Mo- Gnonen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marshall, in the county of Harrison and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Window-Screen, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in screen constructions for use in connection with doors or windows,
and it is the primary object of the invention to provide means for encouraging egress of insects that alight on inner surfaces of the screen.
A further object of the invention is to provide a screen of this character which will be constructed by a particular fold in the upper portion of the screen, the screen in the construction thereof extending beyond one edge of the frame to permit of such folding.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a front elevational view of a window screen constructed in accordance with the present invention, and

Referring to the drawing in detail, the screen forming the subject matter of the invention includes the frame 4 comprising side walls 5 and end wall 6, the same being secured together by any suitable means so that the same will efliciently support the wire mesh forming the body of the screen.
This wire mesh 7 covers one side of the frame proper, and is secured thereto by means of the securing strips 8, which are shown as overlying the portion of the wire mesh 7, to prevent the same from displacement with relation thereto. v

ported to provide a space 11 adjacent the upper extremity of the frame, for purposes to be hereinafter more fully described.
As shown the wire mesh 7 is of a length greater than the length of the frame to which the same is applied, to provide the upper sections 12, which when the device has been assembled, are moved over so that the upper edges thereof contact with each other as at 13, the lacing 14; being provided to secure these upper edges together for a distance substantially the entire length of the upper edges, an opening 15 however being formed substantially intermediate the width of the upper section of the screen to provide an exit so that insects alighting on the inner surface of the screen may find their way to the outer surface of the screen by passing upwardly, and through said opening.
The side faces of the upper section are supported in spaced relation with each other to provide a passageway 16 leading to the opening 15, the edges of the upper sections 12 being brought down to a point to engage the bar 9, suitable securing means being shown as passing through openings 17 in the bar for securing the upper sections 12 to the bar so that the side walls formed by-the upper sections are maintained in spaced relation at all times.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when an insect alights on the inner surface of the screen, since it is only natural that the same will crawl upwardly, the insect will pass through the exit or opening 15, and pass from the room.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A window screen including a frame, a wire mesh supported on the frame, the wire mesh being of a length longer than the frame and being secured to one side thereof. the
upper portion of the wire mesh providing upper sections, said sections adapted to be moved to a point where the same are secured together, and means for securing the upper sections to the frame.
2. A window screen including a frame, said frame comprising side bars and a lower end bar, upper spaced bars forming a part of the frame, a wire mesh supported on the frame, the upper end of the wire mesh extending beyond the upper spaced bars, the upper end of the wire mesh adapted to be folded to engage one of the spaced bars, and means for securing the upper edges of the sections together throughout a portion of their lengths to provide an upper exit.
3. A Window screen including a frame, said frame including spaced upper bars, a Wire mesh supported on the frame, said Wire mesh extending beyond the upper end of the frame to provide upper sections, said upper sections adapted to be folded over each other, means for securing a portion of the section to one of the space bars, and means for securing the upper sections of the edges together to provide an exit.
