)le it known that l, lViLLi-fxnn Pniinnwoorr, a citizen vof the United States, and resident of ripple-'tom in the county of Outagamie and State of vi/Yisconsin, have invented certain new and useful mprovements in Show- Cases and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates -to new and useful improvements in show-cases, more particularly of that type wherein provision is had for storing articles in a bank of drawers or other compartments at the rear of the case.

lt is in general the object of my invention to simplify and otherwise improve the structure of devices of this character to the end of providing a compact and attractive showcase having a maximum volume of display and storage spaces which are so arranged as to render the goods in any of said spaces readily accessible.

It is further my object to provide an arrangement facilitating access to articles in the showcase. wherein is avoided the necessity of providing sliding lapped door sections. and permitting the use of a single sheet of glass over each of the display surfaces of the case.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more particularly described and defined by the appended claim.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, my improved showcase comprises an oblong frame formed of the four corner uprights 5 which are con nected at their upper ends by the rails 6 and which are .connected adjacent thein lower ends by a main bottom 7 for the showcase. A pane of sheet glass 8 is supported on the'rails 6 and covers the entire top of the showcase. The showcase is relatively great in depth, whereby it presents an approximately square vertical cross-sectional outline, as shown in Fig. 1.

The front of the showcase is normally closed by a single pane of glass 10 carried in a door frame 11 which is provided with ointles 12 at its lower end slidable in trackways 13 disposed immediately above the bottom 7 of the case7 and a false bottom 14 is disposed in the case above the trackways to define an inclosed space into which the door frame may slide. rlhus by swinging the door downward/ly and outwardly and then sliding it into the case under the false bot tom 14, access may be readily had to the display portion of the case.

A vertical partition extends longitudinally through the casing, said partition rising from the false bottom 14 and having its upper edge spaced below the top pane 8, and in the present structure this partition comprises a backing plate 15 at the forward face of which is disposed a mirror or other panel sheet 16 retained in place bv a detachable molding frame 17. The panel 16 may thus be removed through the front of the showcase and may be substituted by other panel sheets corresponding in color or other characteristics to the goods which are displayed in the showcase.

The vertical partition serves to conceal the bank of drawers 1S which lill that portion of the showcase between the longitudinal partition and the rear face of the case, said drawers being slidable in compartments formed by crossed vertical and transverse rear partition boards 19, the uppermost horizontal partition 19 being disposed at the top of the main longitudinal partition, with its forward edge preferably resting thereon.

A single drawer is slidable on the upper horizontal lpartition 19, comprising a bottom 20, end walls 21 and a wall 22 at the rear of the case, the inner portion of the drawer being open whereby the compartment or space ofthe drawer forms an angular continuation of the main showcase space which is located between the front of the showcase and the longitudinal partition. Thus portions of articles seated on the drawer 20 may den pend into the main showcase space, thus providing for an 'attractive display. The ends of the showcase are closed by rear panels 23 at the ends of the bank of drawers, and by forward glass panels 24.

A simple and compact showcase structure is thus provided which provides maximum readily accessible storage and display spaces. In the use of the showcase, articles for sale would be displayed in an attractive manner within the top drawer andthe forward space of the case, and stocks of such articles would be carried in the drawers 18 whereby they would be most conveniently accessible. The necessity of opening the display portion of the showcase to procure articles desired by a customer, is thus eliminated, avoiding the accumulation of dust in the display space, and retaining the articles therein in fresh condition since it is only necessary to open the practically dustproof display space when changing the display.

I am aware that it is old to dispose a bank of drawers or other compartments in the rear yportion of a showcase. I have, however, provided an advantageous and novel arrangement whereby such a bank of drawers may be incorporated in a showcase in a manner which does not detract from the display value of the showcase or from the facility with which articles may be mounted for proper display in the showcase, it being noted that by the width afforded to the showcase by the bank of drawers, I am enabled to house the front door ll entirely under the bottom 14 of the case whereby an operator may conveniently work in the display portion of the showcase to properly dress the same. The top drawer also greatly facilitates dressingthe display space, since it may be slid outwardly at the rear of the case and articles placed therein for cooperation with the main display space upon subsequently closing the drawer.

IVhile I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be appreciated that various 'changes andmodiications of structure may be employed within the scope of the appended claim without departing in any manner from the spirit of my invention.

What is claimed is:

A showcase comprising corner posts, rails connecting the upper ends of the posts, a top pane carried by said rails and covering the entire top of the case, a bottom carried by the lower portions of the corner posts, a longitudinal. partition in the case rising from said bottom and having its upper edge spaced .from the top pane, a bank of drawers disposed in the case rearwardly of said partition, a top drawer slidable in the case above said bank of drawers and above the upper edge of the partition7 said drawer having its inner portion open to form an angular continuation of display space afforded in the case forwardly of the partition, a door for closing the front of the case, and a sliding pivotal support for said door at the bottom of the case, whereby the rear of the door may be swung downwardly and outwardly and then slid rearwardly to dispose its inner portion under the bank of drawers.
