,iin new and useful linie moments in vhatts, of which 'followins` is are .ciiieatien re'iereree hei had therein to areoinpanyingg i his iin'ention relates to eounterlnilaneed era-k shafts for inulti-cylinder` Xplosive engines and to an arrangement thereof whereby the running' 'parts are held in ance, as near as may be, when in rotation, by means se located in relation to the hearings et the shaft that torque between the bearings is obviated to a great extent and there is little tendency of the shaft to weave when turning at high speed.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in the appended Claims.
in the drawings,
Figure l is a View of a crank shaft of a multi-cylinder explosive engine, counterbalan'ced and arranged to embody features oif the invention;
Figs. 2, 3, i, 5 and 6 are views in detail taken on the sei-tion lines H, Hl, 1V, V, and Vl, showinethe method and disposition of the counteroalance weight for the several portions et the shaft.
As herein indicated shown as one Atorni of the invention, a Crank shaft for a cylinder engine, has end journals l and 2 and intermediate journals with single throw cranks -i adjacent the journals l and 2, intermediate short'cranks 5 and 6 adjacent the intermediate journals 3, double throw Crank arms 7 and` 8 connected by wrist pineto the cranks 5 and 6, and other double throw arms 9 and l0, connected similarljfv to the cranks Yl. In order to maintain the running balance of the paits 4., 7, 8, 9 and l0, eminterhalanee weights ll and l2 are secured to the shaft adjacent the journals l and 2 at such angles, in relation to the parts as to provide substantially coinplate running balance to them and to the wrist pins. Similarly counterbalanee weights 13 on each side of he intermediate journal balance the parts and to which they are direetlj7 opposite.
As a result of this construction, the parts which lie adjacent to and between the two Speecatien of Letters Fatent.
