DOUBLE-AOTENG-PUllfilP-SPERATING MECHANISM.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, PAUL J. NILsoN, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Grimes, in the county of Folk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double-Acting-Pump-Opcrating liechanism, of which the following is specification.
The invention relates to means for oper ng a double acting pump, said means being pa arly oesigncd for use in connection with windmill, whereby the plungers of a double acting pump may be operated simultaneously in opposite directions so as to insure the continuous flow of a stream of water.
The drawings illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions, various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Tn the accompanying drawings;
Figure l is a view in elevation of a double acting pump operating mechanism embodythe invention, the dotted lines indicating o eration of the mechanism,
Fig. :2 is a sectional detail on the line 22 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow, and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in the several-views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates the mast of a windmill and the san1e may be of any desired construction and arrangement. The pump rods are designated by the numerals 2 and 3, and may be connected with the windmill, not shown, and the plungers of the pump, not shown, in any manner well understood in the art. The pump rods are disposed one within the other and are adapted to be simultaneously operated in reverse directions.
Two arms 1- are connected at their lower ends to the mast 1 and support levers 5 at their upper ends. The arms 4 and levers 5 are located upon diametrically opposite sides Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan, 13, 1920 Application filed Getober 8, 1919.
Serial No. 329,269.
of the mast. The inner ends of the levers 5 are connected to the pump rod 3 by means of links 6 and a clamp 7.
Arms 8 are made tastat their inner ends to the pump rod 2 and incline outwardly and downwardly and terminate in depend ing forks 9 which receive the outer ends of the arms 5. A pair of rollers 10 is mounted between the members of each fork 9, and the rollers are spaced apart to receive the outer ends of the levers 5. The arrangement is such that the pump rods 2 and 3 move in opposite directions a like distance, hence the pump plungers are moved in reverse directions a uniform distance.
The arms a may be secured to the mast in. any manner and as shown most clearly in Fig. 8, their lower ends are bent so as to embrace the mast, one bent end passing through the companion arm and being threaded to receive a' clamp nut 11, by means of which the clamp elements may be drawn about the mast so as to engage the same by a binding action and hold the arms 4 in the located position. The outer ends of the arms 5 terminate in cross-heads 12 which form stops to prevent the outer ends of the arms from being drawn through the forks 9.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In operating mechanism for a double acting pump, and in combination with two pump rods, opposing levers pivotally sup ported intermediate their ends, links connecting one of the pump rods with corresponding ends of the levers, and arms ex-v tending from the other pump rod and having sliding connection with opposite ends of the levers.
2. In operating mechanism for a double acting pump embodying a mast and two pump rods, opposed arms rigidly connected to the mast, levers mounted intermediate of their ends on the arms, links connecting the inner ends of the lever with one of the pump rods, and arms rigidly connected to the other pump rod and having sliding connection with the other end of the said levers.
3. In a double acting pump embodying a mast and two pump rods, oppositely dis posed arms having their lower ends bent laterally to form clamp elements which embrace and secure the arms to the mast, oppositely disposed levers pivoted intermediate of their ends to the arms, links connecting the inner ends of the levers to one of the pump rods, oppositely disposed arms secured to the other pump rod and terminating in forks Which receive the outer ends of the said levers and a pair of rollers mounted in each fork to receive the outer ends of the cooperating lever.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
PAUL J. WILSON. Witnesses JAMES A. RITTGERS, J. W. GALBRAITH.
