Specification of Letters Patent. 1 p

Application filed April 8, 1919. Serial at. 288,488.
ToQaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. Huirr RnY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Enid, in the county of Garfield and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Basket Carriers,
of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to an lmproved means for supporting a clothes receptacle upon a line, one of the objects of the invention being to support the receptacle in a manner that will not interfere with the removal of the clothes as theyare being hung inposition,-gthe means employed occupying an exceedingly small portion of the line.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above character which may be adjusted to receptacles of different sizes and which is detachably secured thereto, so that the receptacle, which may be in the form of an ordinary clothes basket, can be used in the usual manner when not supported upon the line.
Another object is to provide a carrier having a removable pulley, which permits of the device being placed upon a line when the latter is in position for use.
A further object is to-provide means for supporting a clothes pin receptacle above the clothes receptacle, so that the pins are in a convenient position for use, the entire device being such as to eliminate stooping or bendin during the hanging out operation, while t e position at which the receptacle is supported acts to relieve heavy clothes of their weight while they are being placed upon or removed from the line.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following de scription is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation looking at the end of the receptacle and showing the latter supported upon a clothes line by means of an improved carrier.
Fig. 2 is an elevation at right angles to Fig. 1, showing the pulley and line in section and the ears of the link pulled away to disclose the removable mounting of the pulley.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the clothes line, which may be supported in the usual manner, is indicated at 10.
' Supported upon the'line 10, is aclothes,
receptacle 11, which may be in the'formof anordmary clothes basket, if-desired, or a receptacle of any character suitable for the purpose. The receptacle j 11 is supported :upon the line by arr-improved carrier, the
latter comprising a groovedpulley'l2, to which is pivotally secured a link 18. "This link comprises a flat body pjortion,,which' is disposedtransversely to the pulley andhex- .tends outward upon opposite sides thereof,
to provide ears 14, which are formed with apertures 15, while'a central apertured ear 16 is located between theears 14. Extending from the flat body portion of the link are spaced ears 17, which are disposed at right angles to the ears 14 and 16, the said ears 17 having alined openings 18 therein for the reception of a cotter pin 19, upon which the pulley 12 is rotatably mounted. The groove of the pulley 12 is substantially wedge shape in cross section, which permits the carrier from swinging or rotating in a horizontal direction and permits of the wheel being placed upon lines of diiferent diameters. By mounting the wheel upon the cotter pin 19, the said wheel may be easily removed so as to permit of the carrier being adjusted in position without taking down the line. Any other suitable removable mounting may be substituted for the cotter pin, if desired.
Pivotally secured in the apertures 15 of the ears 14, are rods 20, the latter ends of these rods being formed with inwardly extending hooks 21 which may be removably engaged with the handles of the receptacle 11. By this means the clothes may be placed in the receptacle in the laundry room and carried to the line, whereupon the receptacle may be readily attached to the carrier and the latter moved along the line as the'clothes are removed from the basket. In hanging the clothes, the weight of the heavy pieces may be supported within the basket as they are being placed over the line, so that the labor necessary in hanging the clothes is materially reduced.
An exceedingly convenient and novel feature of the invention resides in supporting the clothes pin receptacle by the same hanger which supports the receptacle 11, and for this purpose there is pivotally secured within the apertured ears 16, a hook 22, the clothes pin receptacle being detachably secured to the hook. The receptacle-'23 is of relatively small capacity and. occupies. only a small space above the-hasketandim mediately below the link I3, so as to he out of the way and not interfere with the re-- moval of the clothes. 7
While thedescriptiom of the inventionthas been liini'ted'to the recital of the means for hanging the clothes, it is obvious that theinvention is equally convenient for use in removing the clothesfromthe line afterthey have di'ied i It will? be that the invention provides an exceedingly simple and effective? means fer-the purpose intended and is constructed sothat it; may be manufactured and sold at a moderate cost.v As it permits of; the use of the ordinary clothes Basket and clothes pin: basket; it" iii: Way reducesthe storage space in the laundry or clothes closet".
Itwilf he also a arent that by the use of the carrier considerable time and} many "steps are saved by not havingto pass hackweird and forward. fromthebasket: to the "clothes line, which results in r'e h1'cing: the
ears for pivotally' receiving the pulley, rods having oneof their ends pivotal l y secured to theouter ends of the body portion of the l inl't, means: carried by the ends of the rodsfer-engagement with a clbtheszreceptaeleand relatively short hook pivotally secured to the body; portion of the link between the rods for detachable engagement with a clothesreceptacle. 7 y
