I TOOL-HOLDER.
Application filed June 7, 1919. Serial No. 302,377.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK TEMPLE ALcocK, "a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Kamloops, British" Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention isan improvement in tool holders, and has for its object to provide a holder of the character specified, especially adapted for connecting a pipe reamer 'to a I I place on Armstrong or like stocks" and dies,
Fig. 2 is a front view ofthe holder detached,
Fig. 3 is a view at right angles to Fig. 2,
Fig. 4 is a top plan view,
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of thereamer with one section of the holding sleeve,
Fig. 6is a similar view of the sleeve,
Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing I the attachment applied to the Toledo stocks or dies,
8 is a perspective view of the bracket,
N Fig. .9 is a similar view with the sections separated. 1
In tne embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 6 a substantially U-shaped bracket 1 is connected with the die-holder arms angular lugs 3 an 2, the said bracket having the screw, the arrangement bein such that whenthe screws are loosened t e bracket may be swung away from the holder; 4
4 The body of the bracket has'an opening through which passes a sectional socket, consisting of sections 6 and 7. The sections as shown inFigs. 5; and 6 form a sleeve when they .are together for embracing the shank 8 of the reamer 9. This reamer which is of usual construction has the usual shaped shank, which is received-within the square bore of the sleeve, and it will be noticed re-' ferring to Fig. 5 that intermediate its ends 1 the bore is enlarged and shaped to fit'the tapering shank of the reamer. One section of the sleeve has a. notch 10' in the edge of one sidewall for receiving a Specification of Letters Patent.
the last threads are being cut.
lug 11 in the edge of the side wall of the other section, to prevent longitudinal move- --ment of the sections with respect to each 1 other. The -sleeve is also square in crosssection externally, and the corners are threaded as shown. The opening through the bodyli 'of the bracket 1 is large enough'to permit of the bracket to hold the reamer in adjusted position with respect to the threadlng diesnot shown. 7 v
The pipe to be threaded indicated at- 13 Patented Jan13, 1920.
is engaged: by the holder in the usual manner, and the reamer-is so held that it will come into engagement with the end of the are being cut, to simultaneously complete the operation of threading and reammg.
The adjustment may be made with the Fast pipe cut and reamed. Just before'the last two or three threads are cut the. reameris adjusted into' theend of the pipe, so that pipe, at the moment when the last'threads f it will cut the bur in the pipe end while 1 In the embodim ent of the invention shown in Figs. 7, 8, andj9, the bracketissectional,
consisting of sections 14; and 15, which when joined together (form a substantially U-,
shaped bracket. The arm'of each section has a shoe'ior channel shaped member, 16 at engage over the web17 which is the body sections 14 and 15 are rabbeted as shown at its-free end, and these shoes are adapted to 0 of the holder 1'8. The. meeting ends of the I" 19 to engage onelwithin the-other, and'the said meeting ends ofthe sections'are' point:
I ed or diamond shaped as shown.
- At the lapping rabbeted ends the sections have registering square openings 20 for receiving the sleeve. 6-7 shown in Fig. 6, and.
and-dies, of means connected with the holder .for supportlng a reamer 1n position to en-- v 1. In combination witha holder for stocks gage and ream the end of a pipe as the last of the threadsare cut by the" dies, said means comprising a sleeve shaped internally.
to fit the} shank of the reamer and divided longitudinally .into sections, and means for for supporting a reamer in position to enadjustably connecting the sleeve to the gage and ream the end of a ipe as the last 10 holder, said means comprising a substanofthe threads are out by the ies, said means tially U-shaped bracket having means for comprising a sleeve shaped internally to fit 5 connecting the same to the holder, and lock the shank of the reamer and divided longitunuts on opposite sides of the bracket. Y dinally into sections, and means for adjust- 2. In combinationwith a holder for stocks ably connecting the sleeve to the holder. and dies, of means connected with the holder FREDERICK TEMPLE ALCOCK.
