Description

c. w. DE LONG. VAGINAL DOUCHE AND MEDICATOR.
I I APPLICATION FILED JULY 11.1919. 1,327,705 Patented Jan. 13, 1920.
Jnuen tor a L0H? attorneys UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CYRUS W. DE LONG, OF GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA.
VAGINAL DOUGHE AND MEDICATOR.
Application filed July 11, 1919.
of easy application to that portion of the anatomy to which it is designed to be applied, and which while comparatively inexpensive in cost of production will efliciently perform the function for which it is designed.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred form of my invention, and wherein similar reference numerals indicate like parts wherever they occur, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved device partly broken away, and Fig. 2 a vertical sectional view through the same.
3 designates the hollow base portion of the device of foot-like form open on its upper side and provided with the forwardly extending front portion 4 curved to conform to the lines of the anatomy flanking the opening of the vagina whereby close contact will be made therewith when the device is in position for use. The edges of the body portion flanking the opening are rounded to conform to the portion of the anatomy with which said edges contact.
5 designates the extended upper portion of the device of hollow cylindrical form and forming a channel for the admission of air to the body of the device when the same is in use. This extension also forms a convenient handle in placing the device in position for use. This handle portion 5 is provided with a ring 5 by which the device a may be hung on a hook.
In the rear wall of the device and integral therewith is formed an inwardly and outwardly projecting centrally bored por tion 6 having its inner end exteriorly and interiorly screw-threaded whereby to attach thereto the screw-threaded end of a syringe Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 310,179.
pipe or rubber hose 6, the free or forward end of which enters the vaginal canal. The rear end of the part 6 extends outwardly beyond the wall of the device and is closed by a milled plug or cap 7 provided with a nipple 8 adapted to connect with the end of the liquid supply rubber tube 9. q
Adjacent the outer end of the part 6 there is seated a wire holder 10 within which is placed the medicament which it is desired to introduce into the vaginal tract and which is acted upon and dissolved by the water entering the part 6 from the tube 9. In the bottom wall of the device there is provided a draining opening 10 in which is seated a screw-threaded nipple 11 adapted to connect with the end of a rubber tube 12, the other end of which tube leads to a basin, bucket or other receptacle.
The device may be made of hard rubber, or metal, such as aluminum, as may be preferred.
In operation the parts being connected as shown the required medicament is placed in the holder 10 and the device placed in position with the tube 6 entering the vagina.
Water is then caused to flow through tube 9, and passes through holder 10 where it mixes with the medicament and thence through 6 and 6 to the part to be treated.
The back flow of water is caught in the basin-like form of the body portion 3 and flows therefrom through the draining outlet 10, the nipple 11 and tube 12.
When it is desired to use the douche as a cleansing device only the use of the medicament can, of course, be omitted and the holder 10 removed.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention could be made, without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description 01' shown in accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
=1; In a device of the character described, a hollow member having an enlarged central basin-forming portion and a narrowed for ward end, a handle-forming hollow cylindrically shaped rear end, projecting upward from and connnunioating with the rear of the basin, and means for conducting fluid to and from said device.
2. In a device of the character described, a hollow member of foot-1ike form having a rounded lower or base portion open on its upper side, and a narrowed forwardly extending portion, a hollow cylindrical portion extending vertically from said base, a centrally bored portion forming a part of the rear wall of said device extending inwardly and outwardly therefrom and provided on its ends with fluid conducting connections, and a medicament holder removably seated in said last referred to portion.
3. In a device of the character-described, a hollow member of foot-like form having a rounded lower or base portion open on its upper side, and a flattened forwardly ex tending portion, a hollow cylindrical portion extending vertically from said base, a centrally bored portion forming a part of the rear wall of said device extending in war-idly and outwardly therefrom provided on its ends with fluid conducting connections, a medicament holder removably seated in said last referred to portion, and a drainage outlet in the lower wall of the device.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
