To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, EUGENE SIMEONE, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Webster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented anew and useful Turning-Tool, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a turning tool particularly designed for refinishing the leather-covered top rolls largely used in yarn drawing and similar operations.
This refinishing involves truing up the new leather covering on each side of each section of the roll, and also facing off the leather on the cylindrical surface of each section. These operations have been heretofore commonly performed by using the ordinary types of side and facing lathe tools, involving the insertion, resetting and removal of three different tools in finishing each section of each roll.
It is the object of my invention to provide an improved turning tool capable of use for performing these three necessary operations on a roll without resetting, removal or replacement.
\Vith this general object in view, my invention relates to certain arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the ap pended claims.
A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a partial plan view of my improved turning tool, positioned for operation on a top roll;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the tool;
Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof, and
Fig. 4': is a sectional view taken along the line 4- 1 in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings,my improved turning tool comprises a shank 10 having a hole 11 (Fig. 1) extending horizontally through the shank near one end thereof, and having an additional hole 12 adjacent the same end of the shank and extending in an upwardly and downwardly inclined direction, this hole preferably being slightly tapered.

upper outer ends of the side tools 13 and 1 1 are outwardly beveled to provide the cutting edges shown.
A facing tool 18 is inserted in the upwardly inclined hole 12 in the shank 10, the tool preferably having a slightly tapered body portion fitting the hole 12, and having its upper portion outwardly inclined as clearly shown in Fig. 2. A notch 19 is provided to furnish a shoulder against which to drive the tool firmly in place in the hole 12. The end of the tool is rounded off in plan view, and is tapered and recessed as shown in the drawings to provide a cutting edge.
The use of my improved turning tool is clearly indicated in Fig. 1 in which a double top roll R is indicated in dotted lines with the tool set to bring the side tool 13 into operation. After this side of the roll is faced 0d, the tool carriage can be moved axially to brin the tool 14 into operation on the opposite sic e of the roll, after which the roll can be finished on its cylindrical surface by the facing tool 18.
While I have described my improved turning tool as particularly adapted for use in facing top rolls for textile machinery, it is also capable of general application.
. Having thus described my invention, it will be evident that changes and modifications can be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as set forth in the claims,
and I do not wish to be otherwise limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim is 1. A holder for turning tools having, in combination, a shank, and means to secure a plurality of turning tools thereto, said means comprising a fastening device extending transversely, through said shank near one end thereof and through a pair of turning tools disposed one on each side thereof, and means on said shank to prevent angular displacement of said tools.
2. A holder for turning tools having in combination a shank, and means to secure a plurality of turning tools thereto, said means being effective to secure a pair of turning tools to the opposite vertical side faces of said shank, one on each side thereof,
and said shank having also provision efieetive to firmly secure a third turning tool at the end of said shank and between the first mentioned tools.
3. A holder for turning tools having, in combination, a shank, and means to secure a plurality of turning tools thereto, said means comprising a fastening device effective to secure a pair of turning tools, one on each side of said shank, and means to prevent angular displacement of said tools, said shank having also an opening adjacent said fastening device, disposed at a slight angle to the vertical and in a vertical plane.
