To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PHILIP B. WALLACE and FRANK H. Fox, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Burlingame, in the county of San Mateo, and in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Work-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention seeks to provide a simple and efiicient device which may be used wherever it is. desired to firmly. hold material upon which work is being done and is designed more particularly for use upon metalbending machines of the type disclosed in Letters-Patent No. 1,206,742and No. 1,206,- 743, granted November 28, 1916, and No. 1,263,301, granted April 16, 1918, to John S. Wheeler. 7 i
With the above and other the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the appended drawings and hereinafter described and claimed;

front end of the block 4 and forms the terminal of a chain 15, which extends over the Work, for example, a pipe 16, seated in a jaw 17 having a lug portion 18 secured Within the walled portion of the block 4 by a pin or eye bolt 19, projecting side portions 20 and 21 of the jaw bearing against the front edges of the side walls 22 and 23 of the block. The chain 15 rides over. a. bearing consisting of rollers 24 interposed between an outer ring 25, having an external annular groove 26, and an inner eccentric 27 having an external annular groove 28, for retaining I rollers 24.- in place. The eccentric 27 is provided with end shaft portions 29 and 30 which are rotatable in the slots 31 and 32 of the side walls 22 and 23. A suitable stem 33, preferably angular, is provided to receive a'handle 3 1 for turning the eccentric. The chain 15 consists of a suitable number of links to allow for any desired work in hand, the adjustment of the chain being effected by a yoke 36 having hooks 37 and 38 engaging one of the extended pivot pins 39 of the chain. The threaded stem 10 of the yoke extends through a lug 11 of the block 4 and is held by a nut 12, a set screw 43 retaining the stem in place by bearing upon the intermediate body portion 1 1 of the yoke. The block 4; is slidable upon the frame 1 and we provide a holding and locking arrangement which is adjustable for any suitable work, and quickly releases the work holder from its work. This arrangement consists of. an anchor member 50 with a stud 51 arranged therein and exte'nding'through the slot 2 and a plate 52, a nut 53 upon the stud and bearing againstsaid plate securing the member in' place. "A dog 54 is pivoted to the member 50 by a pin or stud 55, having a collar portion 56 seated in the member 50 and a reduced portion '57 seated in the dog. A cap screw 58 holds a washer 59 over the pin 55 and the dog to prevent rising of the dog, and a nut 60, coiiperating with the plate 52, holds the pin in place. It is to be noted that a curved edge portion 61 of the dog 54, concentric with the stud 55, en gages a' mating surface on the projecting ends 62 and 63 of bearing block 4 thereby permitting the dog to swing laterally. It is to be understood that other suitable means may be adopted to accomplish a firm holding arrangement. In Figs. 5 and 6, a modified arrangement for holding a heated pipe or other material is shown which employs an extra jaw member having an opening 71 therethrough for the chain 15. An extended lip 72 bearing against the side of the block 4 prevents the jaw from moving out of alinement, when the pipe 73 or other material is being bent.
In operation, the work, for example a pipe 16, is clamped to the jaw 17 by engaging a pin 39 in the hooks 37 and 38 of the yoke 36, which is adjusted in the lug il to suit. The eccentric 27 is to be below the center of the bearings 29 and 30 when the chain is secured over the work, as indicated indotted lines, Fig. l, and the handle 34: is
turned from the dotted to the full position as shown, wherebythe eccentric locks itself over the center of pull between the work and lug 41,- the end of the handle bearing upon the frame. It is to be noted that'the desired clamping effect may be accomplished by adjusting the lock nut 42 upon the yoke 36. It is to be understood that the eccentric, to gether with other parts may be altered within the scope of the claims.v
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent of the United States, is as fol lows:
1. A clamping device comprising a bearing block havin wall and connecting -portions; a-lug on" t e block; slotted portions in said wall ortions; a jaw secured onto and within said wall" portions; an eccentric antifrictional roller rotatable in said slotted portion; a aw at the opposite end thereof,
secured onto and within said? walled portions; slotted bearing-portions-insaid wall portions'; an eccentric anti-frictional roller rotatably mounted in said slotted-portions; an adjustable yoke secured into said-lug; said roller-being above'the plane of the yoke and'lug; adjustable studs arranged in hearing block: said studs adaptable to secure or slide said bearingblock upon a suitable frame; means to holdsaid bearing block in an adjusted position; a chain secured to portion-of bearing block adjacent said jaw, and extending oversaid-jaw and said roller and secured onto said yoke.

means to hold said bearing block in a set position, and means to rotate said eccentric roller to secure the work in said jaw.
5. A clamping device comprising a block adjustable upon a suitable frame; a chain pivoted at one end thereof; a jaw secured onto said block; an eccentric roller mounted onto said block; an adjustable hook secured onto other end of said block; a mating jaw with an opening therein; said chain extending from its pivoted point, through said opening of the mating jaw over said eccentric roller to said adjustable hook; means to rotate said roller and meansto adjust said hook to clamp and hold material disposed between the jaws.
6. A clamping device comprising a fixed support, a block suitably mounted thereon, means for securing the block in a set position, an eccentric mounted in the upper por tion of the block, a jaw secured ,upon one end of the block, a chain attached to the block adjacent said jaw and above the fixed support and passing over work seated in the jaw and over the eccentric, an adjusting device secured on the block and engaging the free portion of the chain, and an anchor device secured upon the fixed support and bearing against the block.
7-. A clamping device comprising a fixed support, a block slidably mounted thereon, means for securing the block in a set position, an eccentric in the upper portion of the'block, a chain attached atone end to the block and passing over-the eccentric to hold work between its point ofattachment and the eccentric, an adjusting device on the block engaging the free portion of the chain, an anchor adjustably secured on the fixed support, and a dog pivotallymounted on the anchor and arranged -to bear against the block; p
