One embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which.

The device comprises a tubular metallic casing 10, adapted to fit within an aperture in a supporting wall, there being fitted within the inner end ofthe casing a plate 11 of non-conductive material, such as rubber, to which are attached suitable binding posts 12, 13, having their inner ends extended beyond the inner surface-of the plate 11 a suflicient distance to be engaged by the movable switch terminals. Within the outer end of the casing 10.is slidably fitted a push button 14, having at its inner end a peripheral flange 15. The end of the casing 10 is flanged inwardly, as shown at 16, to overlap the flange 15 and thus'prevent the removal of the button while permitting it to freely reciprocate within the casing.
The plate 11 is provided with a central aperture into which is preferabl fitted a metallic bushing 17, and to the lnner face 'of this plate there is secured an apertured circular plate 18 having fingers 19 and 20 which are forced into suitable apertures in. the plate 11to form a means of attachment. A rotative circular apertured plate 21 is superposed upon the plate 18, and is provided with a pair of radially projecting contact fingers 22, 23, adapted to engage the inner ends of the binding osts 12, 13, to close the circuit therethroug plate.
A circular plate 24 is mounted upon and frictionally engages the plate 21, and is centrally provided with a slot 25, preferably straight, through which plays a plunger 26 of similar cross-section but having a spiral section for causing the oscillation of the plate as the plunger reciprocates. A downwardly deflected spring finger 27 (pointing in the direction of rotation of the plate 21) formed on the plate 24, cooperates with a plurality of shoulders 28, 29-, 3.0, 31, formed on the plate 21 for advancing the latter plate, by a step by step movement, in order to bring its contact arms 22, 23, successively into and out of engagement with the binding posts.
The plate 18 is provided with an upwardly deflected spring finger 32 (pointing in the direction of rotation of the plate 21), also cooperating with the notches in said plate, which provide the shoulders, as 28,
for the purpose of preventing retrograde movement of the latter plate after each ad- Vance step.
The upper end of the plunger 26 is en gaged' by the push button 14. A spiral spring 33 encircling, and at its outer end being attached to, the plunger bears at its inner end against a plate 34 fitted Within the casing 110 and held in place-by a pair of fingers 35, 36, extending through the plate '11, the function of this spring being to withdraw the plunger after its advanced movement due to pressure on the button. The outer portion of the plunger 26 is straight and plays through a complementary slot in the plate 34, whereby turning movement of the plunger is prevented. A spiral spring 37, encircling the inner end of the plunger, reacts between the plate 34 and the plate 24 for holding the latter against the plate 21 and which is thereby pressed against the plate 18.
Pressure "upon the button 14 advances the plunger 26 through the plates 34 and 24 and, by reason of the spiral form of its inner end, causes a turning movement of the latter The recession of the plunger under ill") the influence of thel'spring 33 returns the Y plate 24 to its normal position. As the plate 24 is advanced it carries with it the plate 21, thereby either bringing the contact fingers 22, 23, into or carrying them out of engagement with the inner ends of the binding posts. At the end of each advance step ti t of the plate 21 the finger 32 engages one of its recesses and prevents return movement. The parts are so proportioned that the plate 21 is given a quarter turn at each step. The movements are sufficiently quick to adapt the switch for use in circuits carrying a high potential current.
While the preferred form of construction is shown, various modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention 1. In an electric switch, in combination, a casing, a push button reciprocably mounted in the casing, a base block of non-conductive material secured in the casing, a pair of binding posts set through the block, a rotative disk mounted on the block and having contacts cooperating with the bind-- ing posts, an oscillatable disk superposed on the rotative disk and having a finger engageable with shoulders thereon, a plunger having a spiral portion engageable with a complementary slot in the oscillatable disk and having a straight portion, a cross-member fixed in the casing between the push button and the rotative disk having a slot through which the straight portion of the plunger reciprocates whereby the plunger is held against rotation, and a spring between the cross member and the push button adapted to return the latter to its original position after depression.
2. In an electric switch, in combination, a casing, a push button reciprocably mounted in the casing, a baseblock of non-con ductive material secured in the casing, a
pair of binding posts set through the block,
meagre plunger reciprocates, a spring reacting between the cross-member and the oscillatable disk and a spring between the cross member and the push button adapted to return the latter to its original position after depresslon.
3. In an electric switch, in combination,
a tubular casing, an insulating block fixed in one end of the casing, a push button reciprocably mounted in the opposite end thereof, apair of diametrically disposed fixed terminals projecting through the block, a metallic disk rotatively mounted on the block and having a pair of diametrically disposed contact fingers engageable with the fixed terminals, and having four equally spaced shoulders arranged in annular series, an oscillatable disk superposed on the rotative disk and having a push finger engageable with the shoulders thereof and having a diametrical slot, a transverse slotted partition. in the casing, a spring seated against the partition and urging the oscillatable disk toward the rotative disk, a reciprocating spring-retracted rod seated against the button and having a straight portion slidable inthe slot of thepartition and a spiral portion slidable in the slot of the oscillatable disk, and means for preventing retrograde movement of the rotative 7 disk. 1 v

In an electric switch, in combination, a push button, a non-rotatable spiral plunger, a retracting spring for the push button,.a contact plate rotatable about a central axis, a non-rotatable pawl plate yieldi ly pressed gainst one side of said contact plate and adapted to prevent rotation of the latter in one direction, a pawl plate yieldingly pressed against the other side of said contact plate .and having an aperture complementary in form to the spiral portion of said plunger and through which such spiral portion reciprocates, said last named cam plate being adapted to rotate the contact plate intermittently in the other direction.
