MIVFNTR Jal #NDIS A TTORNEI'S NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN OLIN LANDIS, 0F PHILADELPHIIQA, PENNSYLVANIA..
-MANICURE IMPLEMENT.
To all @4i/wm it may concern.'
Be it. known that i, JoiiN OLiN Laarne, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county oi' Philadelphia and State of Penneylvania, have invented a new and improved Manirnreimv pleinent, of which the following,r i5 a i'uli, elear, and exact deem-notion.
The present invention relateev to new and useful improvement in iminienrinlgg` imple ments and pertains more. partieniarlyl to small tools espeeialiy adapted vfor trimming' nails.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device of thisl character which in its intial manufacture is both emple and cheap.
A further objeet of the invention is to provide a device of this character in which the cutting edge may from time to time be renewed.
With the above and other objeets in View, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the deviee constructed in aeeordane'e with the preeent invention;
Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof;
Fie. 3 is a transverse Set-tional view on the llne 3 3 of Fig. l;
Fig. 4 is a transverse sei-tional vien' on the line 4--4 of Fig. l.
Referring more partieuiarly to the drawings, the reference charaeter fi designatee a. metalv plate, the Center ot' wbieh is provided with an opening 6, which in the present instanee is shown as round but wliirli may be made, in any desired form without depart ing from the spirit 0i' the invention.
The referenee eharaeter 7 designates an annular fiange formed on the marginal edge of the plate 5, and as best seen in Fig. ii, the flange 7 is eircular in eroe4 section.
VFormed in the flange 7 are a plurality oi' cutting elements 8, said eutting.:r elements being equi-distantly spaced with relation to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dee. 9, 1919.
Application flied, April 19, 1919. Serial No. 291,314.
eat-.h other about the periphery ol the plate 5.
1n making the device, a ilat eirrular disk of metal7 preferabbr steel, ie employed, it being umlerstooeh of eourse. that eaid disk. is first perforated as designated by the re ference chal-ariel' After the dish has been thue formed, it is .auhjerfted to the aetion ol suitable die` to i'orm the annular marginal flange 7. which fiange is subsequently ulijerted to suitable mechanism for bending' or eurling' it into eireuiar eross-seetiomil form.
The, disk with its ilange formed as above described, is now put through an)y suitable hardening' process, after n'hieh it is polished for the purpose of impartinga finish thereto. The dial( is now subjected to the. aetion of a suitable grinding maehine and the eutting elements S are i'ornied by Igrinding through the Range 7. the disk being,r ground in faieh a manner that flat sides 9 are prodneedjn equi-distantly spared rela` tion about itsperiphery.
From the foregoiini it will be seen that the preeent` invention not only provideal aA deviee whieh is simple and elleap in manni'aeture, but, eonteinplates a deviee in whit-h the eutting elements may be renewed Vl'roin time to time by merely subjeeting the llat l'aees to the` aetion ol' a suitable, abradng material.
Having thus deseribed the invention, what is claimed is- A devine of the eharaeter desrrihed oomprising a perforated metal disk provided on its edge with a eontinnouf annular llanife of Hulmtantially eireular form in eroe-s sei-tion. haid flange having;n lint ground .e'ufaeewv at equi-distantly spa'eed intervals about its periphery, said ,ground Hnri'aees extending entil-ely through the flangey to provide a pluralit)T of equi-distantly spared eontinuous cutting members.
