CONCRETE-MIXER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 9, 1919.
Application filed July 21, 1919. Serial No. 312,424.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD P. LEAoH, of i the town of Haileybury, in the District of Temiskamin, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete-Mixers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for itso'bject the provision of a simple and cheap, easily operated hand mixer, which will mix the concrete as thoroughly as a power machine.
I attain my object by means of the con structions hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective View, partly broken away, showing my device set up for operation;
Fig, 2 a plan view of the box; and
Fig. 3 an end view of the same showing particularly the door.
In the drawings like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures. V
1 is a stand, which may be of any suitable construction, provided with the open bearings 2 in which may rest the trunnions 3 of the box 4:. This box is substantially rectangular and of elongated form, its length beingseveral times its breadth and the depth nearly equal to the width.
The boxlis provided at one end with a 1 door 5 preferably hinged and provided with a pivoted latch 6 adapted to engage the keepers 7.
Perpendicular to the bottom of the box and spaced from the sides thereofis an inclined central battle 8 formed of wood or sheet metal or wood sheathed with metal. At each end of the box is located an inclined baflle 9 perpendicular to the bottom inclined from the side at a point adj acentone end of the central baflle to a point toward the middle of the end of the box. These baifles may be made of wood or sheet metal, or wood sheathed with metal.
An opening 10 is preferably formed in the top of the box intermediate the center and one end through which any ingredients of the concrete or the water may be introduced if desired,though normally such introduction of the solids would be through the door 5. A similar opening maybe formed at the other side of the center for convenience in through the door and the latter closed. The box is then tilted on its trunnions to bring 5 each end uppermost twice, thus thoroughly mixing the dry ingredients, which slide from end to end first at one side of the central ballie and then at the other. Water is then introduced through the openings in the top of the box and the box is again tilted back and forth until the contents are sufliciently mixed. The box is emptied by opening the door 5 and allowing the contents to slide out. 7
What I claim as my invention is 1. Aconcrete mixer comprising a substantially rectangular elongated box provided at each side with a trunnion, a door closed opening at one end, a narrow central substantially parallel sided battle spaced from the sides of the box, inclined relative thereto and perpendicular to the bottom, and a batfie toward each end of the box'perpendicular to the bottom and inclined from the side at a point adjacent one end of the central bafiie to a point toward the middle of the end of the box.
2. A concrete mixer comprising a substantially rectangular elongated box provided at each side with a trunnion, a narrow central substantially parallel sided baffle spaced from the sides of the box, inclined relative thereto and perpendicular to the bottom, and a bafiie toward each end of the box perpendicular to the bottom and inclined from the side at a point ad acent one end of the EDWARD PATRICK LEACH.
