Description

E. C. ,KELLINGTON.
SPOUT FOB MILLING MACHINERY AND GRAIN ELEVATORS.
APPLICATION FILED APR.15. 1919.
WITNESS: I IN VEN TOR.
I I I I I I I I v A TTORNE Y.
UNITED STATES PATENT onrron.
EDWARD. G. KELLINGT'ON, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
SPOUT FOR MILLING MACHINERY AND GRAIN-ELEVATORS. I
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 15, 1919. Serial N 0. 290,169. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. KELLING- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in Spout-s for Milling Machinery and Grain- Eievators, of which the following is a specification.
The invention provides a novel spout or conduit for conveying flour, feed, grain or cereal from one container to another in the handling and transferring of such commodity as may be necessary according-to the desired manipulation. Spouts or conduits of textile have generally been used for this purpose and it is the object of the present invention to replace such textile spouts or conduits by metal spouts and to construct the same in a manner, whereby they are self-clearing to prevent chokingbut which under ordinary conditions prevent any waste of the material being transferred or conveyed from one part to another. I
The drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions, various changes 1n the form, proportion, and minor detailsv of construction may be resorted to with out departing from the nature of the invention as claimed hereinafter. In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a vertical central section of a spout or conduit embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 2, looking upward, as indicated by the arrow. 7
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in both views of the drawing by like reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates a screen or other part from which the flour, feed grain or like commodity is adapted to be discharged and 2 represents part of a receiver into which the said commodity is delivered. Between these two parts 1 and 2 is disposed the spout or conduit constituting the present invention. v
-A delivery tube 3 is secured at its upper end to the part 1 and depends therefrom and is provided at its lower end with a plurality of points a which are outwardly flared and perform the office of agitators and deliverers.
In the present instance the part 1 constitutes V a portion of ascreen or like part which has a vibratory movement imparted thereto, hence the tube 3 which is connected to the part 1 receives a like vibratory movement, ther by enabling the points lfto act as agitators and deliverers.
A receiving member is connected to the part 2 and comprises a funnel-shaped body 5 and a tubular portion 6, the latter being secured in any manner tethe part 2.' The.
lower end of the delivery tube 3 extends into the upper portion of the funnel-shaped which preferabl' consists of a band of above. 7
In the practical operation of the invention it is assumed that the delivery tube 3 is attached to a screen 1 and the receiving mem-beris connected to a bin 2. The commodity through the tube 3 into the body 5 ofthe receiving member, thence through the tube 6 intothe bin or likepart 2. The plate 7 7 follows the movements of the delivery tube ea 4E1 secured to the upper edge of the body oandpro ecting a short dlstance there Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
discharged from the screen 1 passes 3 by reason of its collar 8 having a telescoping fit on they tube 3. The plate 7 likewise closes the receiving member. Should the spout or conduit tend to choke from any cause and the receiving member fill to over- 7 flowing the elements 5 by reason of their formation and connection with the'delivery tube3 agitate the commodity in the upper portion of the body 5 and at the same time impart an outward and upward movement to the commodity with the result that the plate 7 is elevated and the surface material.
is caused to overflow the receiving member and automatically discharge I therefrom, thereby preventing choking of the screen 1 and at the same time giving warning by calling attention to the fact that the particular spout or conduit is not working properly so that the difliculty may be remedied. The dotted lines in Fig. 1 illustrate the position of the plate 7 when elevated and thearrows show the direction oi the commodity when automatically discharging from the receiving member of the spout or conduit.
The foregoing description and the drawing have reference to what may be co'nsid ered the preferred, or approved form of my invention. may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc, may prove expedient and fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A conduit, substantially as herein specified, the same comprising a delivery tube provided at its discharge end with flaring elements constituting agitators and deliverers, a receiving member having a flared portion into which the discharge end of the It is to be understood that I delivery tube projects a short distance and a the same comprising a delivery tube provided at its discharge end with a plurality of flared elements constituting agitators and deliverers, a receiving member having a flared portion into which the discharge end of the delivery tube projects a short distance, a flexible lip at the upper edge of the receiving member, and a plate resting loosely on the flexible lip and constituting a closure for the receiving member and having a loose connection with the said delivery tube.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
