WHEELED GUN-CARRIAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
Original application filed May 26, 1917, Serial No. 171,207. Divided and this application filed October 22,
i 1918. Serial No. 259,204.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMILE RIMAILHO, a citizen of France, residing in Paris, France, have invented a new and Improved Wheeled Gun-Carriage, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. 7
This invention relates to gun carriages and has reference particularly to the trail thereof, formingthe divisional matter of my application, Serial No. 171,207, filed May 26, 1917.
The object of the present invention is to provide a trail having a foldable beam.
On the drawing annexed Figure 1 is a plan of the gun carriage in which the trail is opened to maintain the carriage in firing position;
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, with i the trails in closed position for road transit; v
frame 41 in the shape of a V or a horse shoe. Said trail frame has the, male part 42 of a ball and socket joint which is housed in the axle. This joint allows the trail beam 84 to move into the prolongation of the median line of thewheels. The pivot 49 of the small gun carriage or gun engaging element is carried by the trail frame 41.
In consequence the line of the axes of the male part 42 and of the pivot 49 form an angle with the axis of the trail 84, and the male part 42 is overhung on the axle. The
gun engaging element 49' receives or holds the gun 50.
The trail beam 86 is pivotally connected to a gudgeon 85 mounted on the trail frame 41. The trail beam 86 is provided at its front end with a lug 87 for connecting it to the axle frame. Another lug is provided at the other end of the trail beam 86 by which the male part 42 of the joint and that of the pivot 49.
I'claim:
1. A wheeled'gun carriage comprising an axle wheel member, an arched trail frame, trail beams, a ball and socket joint coupling said axle wheel member to the trail frame, one of said trail'beams being rigidly connected to the trail frame, means connecting pivotally the other trail beam to the arched member so that said beam may be folded 3. A wheeled gun carriage comprising an axle wheel member, an arched trail frame having a rigid trail beam, a ball and socket joint coupling said trail frame to the wheeled member, a pivoted joint carried by the trail frame for supporting a gun engaging element so that the rigid trail beam can be brought into alinement with, the median line of the gun engaging element when said beam .is moved on the ball and socket joint which couples the trail frame to the wheeled member, and a trail beam pivotally connected to the trail frame to swing to and from the rigid beam, said pivoted trail beam having means for engaging the axle wheel frame When the pivoted trail beam is swung away from the rigid trail beam.
4. A Wheeled gun carriage comprising an axle Wheel member, an arched trail frame, a ball and socket connection between the arched trail frame and the axle Wheel memhe b ll m m of the ball an SQQkQ connection being carried by the arched trail frame, a trail beam fixed to the arched trail frame, and a second trail beam pivotally connected with the arched trail frame and having means for connection With the axle Wheel member or the fixed trail beam.
